Peggy O'Neill is a campus cop somewhere in the Twin Cities area. She works the "Dog Shift" (midnight to 8:00 AM) by choice because she enjoys the quiet and solitude. Of course, the quiet and solitude of the early hours on this particular campus are frequently broken by murder. Peggy gets along much better with the local cops than she does with her superiors on the campus police force, and her curiousity keeps her investigating long after her "jurisdiction" ends. These are not "academic" mysteries in the Kate Fansler mold. Nor are they hard-boiled detective stories. What they are is purely delightful.
