MARCIA MULLER
Marcia Muller is generally credited with writing the first novel to feature a female private investigator: Edwin Of The Iron Shoes, in 1977, featuring Sharon McCone. Sharon McCone has worked for All Souls Legal Co-op since then until it went private in the 90's. All Souls offered low cost legal representation to people who otherwise couldn't afford it - which allowed McCone initially to take clients not usually represented in detective fiction. The outlook of these books has become darker and Sharon has become more cynical as time's moved on.
Edwin Of The Iron Shoes
Joanna Stark is an art expert, obsessed with catching one particular art forger. This small series, though not as well known as the Sharon McCone books, offers the familiar pleasures of Muller's writing.
The Cavalier In White
Elena Oliverez is the curator of the Mexican Arts Museum in Santa Barbara. The third book in this unfortunately short-lived series is something of a ghost story written with Bill Pronzini.
