JULIE SMITH
Skip Langdon is a New Orleans police detective from an upper class family. At 6 feet tall, she never fit into proper Garden District society, though she sometimes finds her old contacts there useful. Skip and her friend and neighbor Jimmy Dee are richly imagined characters, and New Orleans provides not only colorful backgrounds but a fascinating glimpse into a fractured and multi-layered society.
New Orleans Mourning
Rebecca Schwartz is a San Francisco lawyer who identifies herself as a Jewish feminist. This earlier series of Julie Smith's is lighter and more amusing than her Skip Langdon books, but her talents as a writer are in obvious here.
