Kate Wilhelm is probably best known for her award winning science fiction. She has written a few mystery series set in the Pacific Northwest, including the Barbara Holloway series. Holloway is a defense lawyer who has tried capital cases. She is, in legal parlance, "death qualified." Her clients tend to be poor and their cases unpopular and complex. If you're a fan of courtroom drama, you'll find these books challenging as well as entertaining.
