CHAPTER NINETEEN

Smiles :

It wasn't that she was a girl ... it was that she was two days older then me ... that's what made her so cool ... but then kindergarten was kinda cool at that. Thirty years have ran by. We had a great time back then. I have no idea where she is ... she probebly never went very far from home. I on the other hand have traveled far and yet in these moments ... I sit here and turn back to that small classroom in southern Maine ... and to a cool little girl's smiles that have been a wondrous source of memories for all these years.

Fall of 1971. Nixion was President and Vietnam was still very real. We met by the sailboat in Mrs. Lush's room. It was a time of letters and sounds ... a time of numbers and finger painting. A time when she and I were innocent children. Now it's almost Spring of 2001 ...

I sometimes wonder if she ever thought I was cool because I am two days younger than her

Today the world we live in is brighter ...
I'm not afraid ... Are you ?
