Photographs of the Flinders Ranges: Rawnsley area

The Flinders Ranges are a group of scenic mountain ranges in the dry north of the state of South Australia.

Rawnsley Park is just south of Wilpena Pound, which is the centre of Flinders Ranges tourism. The beautiful Moralanna Creek drive is in the same area.

This native cyprus pine clings to the cliff at Rainbow Falls. These trees one of the defining features of the central Flinders Ranges.

The hill in the sunshine is Twidale Top (named after the geomorphologist who explained how it came to form). The Wilpena Pound Range is in the background with Rawnsley Bluff on the right.

The Elder Range catches the first rays of sunlight for the day

Four minutes after the above photo was taken the sun was shining on the Ulowdna Range and the scene changed markedly.
