Declaration of Independence

Independence was not far away for the colonies now. One of the most influential pieces of literature was written by Thomas Paine. It was a pamphlet called Common Sense. His argument was that countries should be ruled by laws made by the people. More information can be found on pages 154 - 157 in your textbook.

Email Mr Navis with the following questions in bold and answers in plain font.
1. Would you agree that countries should be ruled by laws made by the people?
2. Has this happened throughout the history of our country (Peru)? Explain your answer.

On July 4, 1776, members of the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, dissolving all allegiance to the British Crown and creating the United States of America. Despite having fewer resources and less military experience, the American forces successfully defeated the British and created a new, democratic nation. Read the Declaration of Independence on pages 158 - 161 in your textbook.

3. Write the introduction in your own words.
