I packed up my tent and was on the trail by 7:00 A.M. I reached Highway 15 around 9:00 A.M. just as young Keith Shaw from Shaw's Boarding House was dropping off some hikers at the trailhead. So Keith gave me a lift into town, and of course, I went to Shaw's, where they have hosted more than 35,000 hikers.

I had a shower, cleaned up, and discovered that 'Restless' and 'Bliss' were staying here. They took me on a quick tour of the town; 670 residents with one main street, a few assorted shops, two groceries, and a Servo come deli, and that's it. There are three places for hikers to stay: the renowned Shaw's, the Pie Lady's, and another place above the laundrymat. Anyhow, the girls and I ended up at the grocery and bought a few snacks and a pint of Ben and Jerry's each.

Early afternoon, 'Daddy Mention's' girlfriend, Noreen, showed up. She's going to hike the 100 mile wilderness with 'Daddy'. We gave her the trail name, 'Momma Said', which she liked. She has her car here and offered to take me down to the town of Greenville, where I could buy Aqua Mira at the Trading Post, so the four of us bundled into the car and headed off to Greenville. After buying my water purifier, we went right into town to look around.

That's when we discovered that Greenville was situated on the edge of Moosehead Lake. Moosehead Lake is huge, some 40 x 20 miles, I'm told. The township was really neat - a lot of souvenir shops, cafes, etc. We sat by the boat harbor for a while and I counted 13 floatplanes moored there. There was also a large steam ferry named Katahdin, so we took some photos of us all standing in front. In two weeks there is an International Floatplane Fly-in, which I would really love to see, but one can't do everything.

After that, we went back to Monson. 'Bliss', 'Restless' and I had dinner on the patio; I had a pizza. For dessert we had a huge blueberry pie with cream, which we shared with 'Lotto' who had arrived at Shaw's in the meantime. I had purchased the pie from the Pie Lady earlier in the afternoon. We all agreed that it was excellent.

'Scarecrow' is staying at Shaw's also. He, 'Restless', 'Bliss', 'Momma Said' and 'Daddy Mention' are hitting the trail tomorrow. That'll leave 'Lotto' and myself here to welcome newcomers. Tomorrow is a zero day for me, and then I'm Northbound also.

With that, I'll say Goodnight all.
