26th August 2002 From:
ME15 In the morning, 'Ma Tish' (the shuttle driver for the "A Team") was in town so she and 'Doc' took 'Lotto' and me into Greenville to Moosehead Lake. There we wandered the shops and had coffee and lunch; a very delightful morning. In the afternoon, I spent a lot of time at the library on the Internet searching low airfares from Bangor to Los Angeles, only to find to purchase you must have a USA issued credit card. Fortunately, one of the hikers here put me on to his travel agent in Pittsburgh who set me up with a $429.00 fare. So, as this is a non-refundable, non-changeable ticket, I am committed to travel on that date or lose the money. As a precaution, I have allowed one slack day between Monson and my completion of the hike on Katahdin. Hopefully, that's adequate. So, at the moment, it's Bangor to LA on Friday, 6th September, and LA to Melbourne on Sunday, 8th September. I'll try to bring that last leg forward by one day if a seat becomes available. Now I can relax and enjoy the last 100+ miles of beautiful Maine. My Ben and Jerry's treats today were Pistachio in the morning and Chunky Monkey in the afternoon. That's it for now. Goodnight all.
