I hit the trail at 6:15 A.M. and got stuck straight into South Kinsman Mountain (4358 feet). Just near the summit I was passed by 'Guern' and 'Donkey' - I caught up with them at 9:30 A.M. on the summit. Unfortunately, we were socked in by clouds so there was no vista. We sat there for a while and had a snack then continued on.

My goal was to get to the highway so I could hitch to North Woodstock and buy groceries. You could tell it was a weekend - weekend warriors and day hikers everywhere; I suppose tomorrow (Sunday) will be the same. I reached the highway at 12:30 P.M. and got a ride in minutes. I went to Wayne's market and bought enough food for 6-7 days; hopefully, this will get me through to Gorham, 73 miles away.

After sorting out my food, I went back into the store to buy lunch. I bought a chocolate milk, a Gatorade, a large veggie Sub sandwich, a packet of potato chips, and my reward, a pint of Ben and Jerry's New York Chocolate Fudge Chunk Ice Cream. I hadn't tried this one before and it was delicious - chocolate ice cream, chunks of white and dark chocolate fudge and chocolate-coated walnuts and almonds - this one was recommended to me by 'Guern'.

I've been telling a few people on the trail who seem to be worried, that things have a way of working themselves out. This has happened to me many times to date. An example today was - I was low on water purifier (Aqua Mira), however, the nearest store was miles away in Lincoln so it looked like I would run out before I got to Gorham. Well, I was sitting down having lunch at the picnic table beside the Deli in North Woodstock, when five teenagers came and sat at the table next to me. One of them spotted my backpack and asked if I was an AT thru-hiker. It turns out that three of these kids work at the outfitter in Lincoln. They offered to drive me over there to buy my Aqua Mira. As it turned out, it only cost me $8.00 where everywhere else I have paid from $13.00 to $17.00. After that, the young guys drive me back to the AT some distance away. That's how things seem to work themselves out.

Tonight, I'm camped on an AMC tent platform at a cost of $8.00. 'Blaze' and 'The Lone Ranger' are here, as is 'Haze', who I haven't seen since New Jersey. 'Guern' and 'Donkey' didn't want to pay $8.00 each (I don't blame them) so they snuck off into the woods close by.

That's all for today. Goodnight all.

P.S. I forgot to mention an important reason for going to town was to call the hospital and get the results of the Lyme disease test. Thankfully, the test was negative.
