Today was the day we were all rewarded for all our hard work: we got to climb Mt. Lafayette and walk the ridge above the tree line. It was an exhilarating experience with 360-degree views on a clear, sunny day. As 'Blaze' put it: "IT IS INDISCIRBABLE!" Mt. Lafayette is 5249 feet high and from here we could see Mt. Washington to the northeast. We should be climbing this mountain in three days or so.

'Blaze', 'Haze', 'Guern', 'Donkey', and myself pretty much tracked along together today. Around 2:30 P.M. we reached the Galefield Hut, one of the huts managed by the AMC. Hikers can stay in these huts for $65.00 per night. This includes dinner and breakfast, no shower, and sleeping in a shared bunkroom. Reservations well in advance and usually required. 'Blaze' was desperate to stay and luckily they had a vacancy, so he was set. 'Haze' was able to get work-for-stay, however, before we moved on we bought cake and lemonade for just $1.00.

The constant climbs and descents are certainly tiring us out. I'm the most tired I have been in a long while.

I have my tent erected on one of the AMC's tent platforms again. At $8.00 per night, it's a bit steep. I guess they're not called the "Appalachian Money Club" for nothing!

After 'Blaze' decided to stay in the AMC hut, I developed 'Downunda's' fourth law: "Any thru-hiker who takes the soft option of staying in an AMC Hut automatically gets awarded a "Blue" blaze."

I'm bushed, so that's it for today. Goodnight all.
