10th July 2002 From:
Morgan Stuart Shelter The trail was very easy today, just gentle, rolling hills with very few rocks. At 11:30 A.M. I hit NY 22 and headed to Tony's Deli, 1/2 mile down the road, for a Sub and a drink. By this time I had done ten miles and had planned to do another six after lunch. The temperature was in the low 70's and low humidity, which was ideal for hiking. Tomorrow I will cross into Connecticut and should reach Kent early afternoon. I passed the Appalachian Trail Train Station today, which is near Pawling, NY. The trains only stop at this station on weekends for some reason. Had I been here on a Saturday or Sunday I would have taken a quick trip into New York City. The fare was listed as $11.60 one way and was a two-hour trip. Here at the shelter tonight are: 'Semi-Pro' and 'Woodstock' and two Southbounders. That's all for now, goodnight all.
