Miles today:  20.3

It was hard leaving the comforts of The Shamrock Village Inn, particularly as I had a resupply of food on board.

The AT today would take me over Mt. Greylock at 3491 feet - it is the highest point in MA. As soon as I hit the AT the ascent started and didn't stop unit mid-afternoon when I reached the summit of Mt. Greylock. Just as I arrived at the summit light rain started and clouds closed in. Bascom Lodge is located here so I went in and bought a Snapple lemonade. I debated whether to check in and stay the night, however, I decided I had had enough stay in Dalton so I pushed on. The next shelter was a little over three miles away so I would arrive there around 6:00 P.M.

Just as I started out the rain eased off, then about five minutes later got heavier and didn't stop until around 7:30 P.M., so I got a little wet on the way to the shelter. Only one person was at the shelter, a young southbound thru-hiker.

I changed out of my wet clothes into my dry set and then hung the wet gear all around the shelter. Luckily only the two of us were here otherwise there normally wouldn't be room to do this.

After dinner it was into the sleeping bag as it is rather cold. There doesn't seem to be many mosquitoes around so hopefully I'll be okay just in my bag in the shelter.

That's all for now. Goodnight all.
