21st July 2002

From:  Congdon Shelter
To: Kid Gore Shelter
State
: Massachusetts
Miles: ?  1606.5 (1151.5)
Miles today:  18.7

The trail was fairly tough today with lots of rocks and roots and a few steep climbs and descents. Considering it is a Sunday, there weren't that many day hikers around. I think I saw four northbound AT hikers and about 12 others who are hiking The Long Trail.

My legs didn't want to move at all today and I found myself gorging much more food than usual. That must have done something, because my energy level recovered in the afternoon. The problem now is I have to buy more food - that'll be a hitch into Manchester Center, VT, which is about five miles from the trail.

There's one Long Trail hiker sleeping in the shelter as well as 'Tiger Lily' who's here also. 'Bliss' has managed to set up her tent on the small patch of grass next to me. I took a photo of them, as this is the first time I have seen them when it hasn't been dark. They usually arrive at the shelters late at night.

That's it. Goodnight all.
