Miles today: 24.8 miles
Weather:

I hit the trail at 6:15 A.M. today after about six others had left before me. Hikers are getting into the early start as they realize that you can crank out 12-14 miles before 10:30 A.M. and beat the heat. As it turned out, it didn't get hot at all today.

At 10:30 A.M., there were six of us at The Elkwallow Wayside Store and Grill; most ended up with potato chips and coke. I had two large hot chocolates and two oatmeal cookies.

I covered a long distance today as I wanted to be close to Front Royal so I could get in there early tomorrow. I need to buy food, get photos processed, and get to the post office. My goal is to do all of that and be back on the trail early afternoon. I was able to do the big miles because the trail conditions were superb - super smooth, few rocks, and gentle climbs.

I am in the shelter (Tom Floyd Shelter - pictured) tonight with 'Sidewinder', 'Real', 'Snake', 'Sheltowee', 'Backdraft', and 'Wingfrog'. The shelter here has a large deck out front with built-in seats. The group here is a great bunch and we've had a few laughs.

I'd write more, but light is fading, so, I'll say goodnight all.
