25th May 2002 From:
Cow Camp Gap Shelter ![]() Camping spots along the river are scarce as it's a long weekend (Memorial Day) and everyone is out camping and hiking. I managed to find a tiny spot just along from 'Steamboat'. 'Real' decided to hitch the 1.5 miles to the local store to try to buy some ice cream and beer. Unfortunately, the store was closed, so 'Real' hitched a lift back. The guy driving took him to a friend's house and 'Real' drank a bottle of whisky, so by the time he got back to the riverside camp, he was a "little merry" shall I say. We've seen him into his sleeping bag and hopefully he won't move all night! There are two young couples camped just up from us so 'Steamboat' went to visit them to see if they would sell him a few cans of beer. They were great; they wouldn't take any money and gave him three cans of Bud, which 'Steamboat' and I shared. Thanks folks, these old hikers really appreciate it. I'm about 30 feet from the river and it sounds great. As you can guess, I am rather tired so I'll say goodnight all, especially to Lisa, Ms. 'Steamboat'. Downunda |
