9th May 2002 From:
Helveys Mill Shelter ![]() The hiking today was fairly easy although it was going to be quite a hot day. My legs did not want to go up hills today so I decided I would only go to the next shelter then call it a day. By the time I reached the shelter at 1:30 I was out of water and quite hot, so was happy to stop. This morning I spotted a Lady Slipper (pictured right), which I'm told is a fairly elusive flower. It was rather graceful standing there all-alone. I also saw another salamander but this time it was in the spring that I was drawing water from. It just looked up at me then swam under a nearby rock. Tomorrow morning I plan to get an early start to get to Trent's Grocery and Deli where I'll have a pizza for lunch. I'm with a whole lot of new folk at the shelter tonight as the other hikers I have been travelling with decided to push on to Trent's Deli. With me here tonight are: Ojiisan, Mahoosuc, Happy Pancake, and the Prince of the Universe (two UK guys). It started raining at around 4:00 P.M. this afternoon and kept up for two hours. At one stage it looked like we would get thunderstorms but fortunately, we didn't. It's now fined up, the sun is shining, and all is well with the world. With that, I'll say, "goodnight." |
