Although Cargo-Lift has done an adequate job of providing easy access to information on the Internet, it still has a long way to come in its provision of online services and becoming a truly digital firm.  It has made great strides in leveraging its Website as an information source.  Despite the use of its software program, its Web presence can be greatly extended to be more transactional.  The overall digitization of Cargo-Lift will be limited until these steps are taken.  Cargo-Lift make a number of vague statements about the scope of the service processes they offer such as, “offers a full range of transportation related services”, and “provides a full range of domestic and international brokerage services”.  As a potential consumer we were left wondering, what were the exact service processes we could rely on Cargo-Lift to provide, and if these statements were a guarantee that they would look after any and all of our customs brokerage needs.  The focus of Cargo-Lift’s website seems to indicate that their core competencies are in providing documentation, and using EDI technology to have direct contact with customers and transporters.  It seems that once a company is a client of Cargo-Lift’s, and are connected to them electronically, most of the customs brokerage services are taken care of with EDI technology.  In terms of geographic coverage, it could be assumed that Cargo-Lift does operate in the NAFTA countries due to their trilingual website, however, the Spanish version of the website is not yet functional.  Beyond that, in the “Projects” link on their website, we found explicit evidence of seven countries in four different continents that they have operated in previously.  It is also implied that they do business with the United States as they offer transborder road transport services.  Beyond this, we could not determine which countries, continents, or trading regions that Cargo-Lift operates in.  Cargo-Lift has yet to offer potential customers the opportunity to perform service processes digitally through their website, however, upon becoming one of their customers, you would be able to interact with them through their EDI technology.
