traveling:
I do almost all touring on motorcycles,
camping. So far, it covered countries like: all central, southern and western Europe,
U.S.A, Canada, Alaska, Turkey, some Balkan states, Scandinavia. Future plans include
Australia, South America, Newfoundland, ... and lots more!
music:
anything that has to do with Blues. Some fellows claim I'll only listen to what's older
than myself. (Not true, really!) Of course I also collect music
links on my hotlist page. If you really interested find a list of all my CDs (and other media).
bicycling:
In 1991 I bought a Giant Cadex 890i
(is not produced anymore) as an ideal compromise between requirements for every day
commuting (all year round) and occational off-road trips through the woods, possibly also
some touring. I did not regret that purchase, and many years the bike was perfect for me.
A missionary mountain biking friend however finally convinced me that I will have more fun
with a real mountain bike. Since I don't find much time for biking and didn`t want to
spend a lot of money I bought a used one: Some guy had build up a MAXX Bullit frame with
Shimano LX/XT components and a Marzocchi fork. I replaced the fork with a better one
and am very happy with it!
Some bicycle links can be found on my hotlist
page.
movies:
I loved "Buena Vista Social Club" or movies like "Lola
rennt" the music movie "Bandits",weird stuff like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
one I really liked wass "El Mariachi" by Robert Rodriguez. I also like his other
movies, most of them starring Quentin Tarantino: "From Dusk Till Dawn" (it also
has a great soundtrack, especially Tito &
Tarantula "After Dark"!), "Desperados" (and its soundtrack),
"Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs".
"Fargo" and Steve Buscemi movies I like. Usually I don't like
splatter movies - well, another exception is "Silence of the lambs", I prefer
beatifully filmed pictures (as in "Paris, Texas", "Thelma and Louise",
"A river runs through it") or movies with interesting characters/relationships
("Fried Green Tomatoes", "My private Idaho", "Deep Blue")
and just about everything with Dustin Hoffman or Robin Williams. As cult movies I list:
"Blues Brothers",
"Rocky Horror Picture Show",
"Xaver" (a Bavarian low budget movie), "Irgendwie und Sowieso"
(Bavarian hippies series), "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", "Dead Men
don't wear plaid", Marx Brothers, Monty Python.
For more of my movies links see my hotlist
page.
books:
most books on my shelf have some sort of philosophical touch or are travel stories. Recommendations: Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the art of
motorcycle maintenance" and "Lila", Douglas Hofstadter (even though I
don't fully understand all what he writes), and Douglas Adams on "life and
everything". Of course just reading itself is a pleasure, e. g. the authors of the
Beat Generation, Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Erich Kästner, Heinrich Böll, and lots more. I also like to read motorcycle travel stories, one
of my favorites is "Jupiters Travels" by Ted
Simon. Recently I also became a Harry-Potter-Fan: I have read the books and seen the movies
and loved it all!
hanging
around nice places with nice people and maybe have a beer: Kilkenny, Guinness
or Wettelsheimer Kellermärzen (from one of my hometown breweries). Whiskey and
Whisky I like, too. At home on the couch I rather drink dry red wine (Italian, Australian). Everywhere at any time
I like to drink coffee/espresso/cappucino.
