Meditation and Reflection on
The Importance of Prayer, Pt I

Luke 11: 1
".....Lord, teach us to pray."
Bible Reading & Meditation
Matthew 6: 5-15
Teaching about Prayer
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
The Lord's Prayer
"This is how you are to pray:
Our Father in Heaven
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors;
and do not subject us to the final test,
but deliver us from the evil one.
If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."
Reflection:
Prayer is a wonderful experience. Not only are we blessed and our life changes as we become more Christ-like, but we unleash the power that can change lives and circumstances. In order to truly experience the power in prayer, we must know Jesus Christ personally. God must be our spiritual Father. For Christians, prayer is not an option. If we are to be filled with God's blessings, we need to learn to pray effectively. Study what Jesus teaches us about prayer.
Sink back into your chair...take deep breaths...inhaling the goodness of God and exhaling the pressure and stress of your day. Bring yourself in His presence. Say a prayer to the Holy Spirit and ask God for guidance in hearing what He is saying to you today. Look at the do's and don'ts that Jesus teaches us about prayer. Jesus often spent time alone in prayer. Do you have a prayer time, a time set apart just to pray and meditate on God? How do you define prayer? What is your purpose of prayer? Do you know the commands and promises that God gives to you concerning prayer? (Matt 7:7-8)
"Prayer is the rope that pulls God and man together. But it doesn't pull God
down to us: it pulls us up to him."
BILLY GRAHAM (1918-)
I write in my journal any thoughts or feelings I have experienced during this meditation and reflection.

Prayer Focus
Lord God, All Glory and Honor is Yours. I ask you to strengthen me as I learn more about prayer. Help me to learn to pray as you have taught. Help me to see your faithfulness, love, grace and power. Show me how to pray honestly and simply. Remove all the selfishness and lack of love that stops me from being united with you. Let me learn to love one another and to forgive others. I ask this, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen
