Meditation and Reflection on
The Importance of Prayer, Pt III

John 14:14
"If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."

Bible Reading & Meditation

Six Conditions for Answered Prayer

  • Love God
  • Obey God
  • Glorify God
  • Forgive Others
  • Live God's Word
  • Trust God

  • Love God

    John 14: 13-14; 15:15-17
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you.

    Obey God

    1 John 3:22
...and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

    Glorify God

    John 17:4
I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.

    Forgive Others

    Colossians 3:13
bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.

    Live in God's Word

    John 15: 7
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.

    Trust in God

    Mark 11: 22-24
Jesus said to them in reply, "Have faith in God, Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.

    Reflection:

John 14:14....If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." We need to pray, In His Name, according to His selfless spirit. The Holy Spirit within us helps us to pray. As we begin to learn to pray in the power and name of Jesus, we will have new authority and see answers to our prayers. Loving and glorifying God, living in His word, trusting, obeying and forgiving others must be a part of our daily living, our will must become God's will. When we know we are praying in God's will, we can have boldness and go to our Father and ask anything.

Sink back into your chair...take deep breaths...inhaling the goodness of God and exhaling the pressure and stress of your day. Bring yourself in His presence. Say a prayer to the Holy Spirit and ask God for guidance in hearing what He is saying to you today. Ask God, today, to cleanse and purify your desires and motives. Ask Him to remove any desires that are not according to His will. Do you have anyone that you need to forgive? If you hate someone, can you love God? Examine your life, your daily life, your spiritual life, your prayer life, do you need to make any changes to have the boldness to go before the Lord and ask for what you need? Claim a verse. (to claim a verse, read an appropriate promise, believe in it, and bring it to God reminding Him of the promise and thank Him for what He is about to do.) Remember the promises given to us. 1 John 14-15, And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.

    Prayer Focus

Heavenly Father, my heart sings your praises, my spirit longs to live according to your word and your will. Help me to grow and learn. Remove all my selfish desires that hinder my growth towards your love. Help me to learn Your will for my life. Help me to forgive someone who has hurt me. Teach me how to abide in the love of Christ. Make my life one with you, according to Your will. I ask this, Father, knowing your promises to me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
