April 30th, 2000

Our little guy FINALLY arrived!  :)  Here's how it happened...

On Thursday, April 27th, at about 10:30 AM I went to the doctor and she inserted some prostaglandin gel directly onto my cervix to try and get things started.  (I was 4 days overdue.)  Then she had me stay in the office and hooked up to a monitor to see if I was contracting.  I was contracting, but there was no rhythm to them, so she sent me home.  I continued with the contractions all morning and all afternoon.   About 6:30 PM, the contractions were 3 minutes apart, but I didn't feel like they were strong enough to be "real" labor.  I called the hospital, and they told me to come in anyway, so off we went!  When I got there, three different nurses tried examining me, but none of them could determine if I was dilated or not.  So, they decided to give me a shot of a pain killer and send me home!  (This was about 9 PM)  Just as they were getting me unhooked from the monitors so I could get dressed, I felt this horrible excruciating pain.  It felt like the baby dropped very low all at once.   Then my water broke.  The nurse examined me and she said I dilated from 0 cm to 5 cm in a few seconds!  So they decided I was in "real labor."   (Duh!)  Soon, I got my epidural (aaahhhhh!  Relief!) and at about 10 PM I got the urge to push.  The nurse told me not to push yet so they could call the doctor.   The doctor arrived at about 11 PM and I started pushing at about 11:15.  At 11:37 PM, our little angel was born!  His cord was wrapped around his neck twice so he had trouble breathing.  His apgar scores were only a 6 and an 8.  After he was put on oxygen for a while, he was just fine and I finally got to hold him!  He is just so beautiful!  What a precious gift from God he is!  All the troubles I had with this pregnancy are already forgotten!  He is my little bundle of joy.  His big brother Gage and big sister Lexi just think the world of him already!  Oh, I almost forgot!  -We named him Cole Phillip!  :)  He was 8 lb. 2 oz and 21 1/4 inches long.
