2 cups flour

1 cup salt

1/2 cup boiling water

2T alum

In bowl, combine flour, salt, and alum.  Combine oil and water; gradually add to dry ingredients.  If desired, tint water with food coloring before adding to flour mixture.  Store dough in screw top jar to keep from drying out.

This is a wonderful silly putty-like substance that kids can play with.  It bounces, and when you put a straw into it, you can blow bubbles with it!

2 cups glue (Elmer's School Glue)

1 1/2 cups cool water

1 cup WARM water

3 teaspoons Twenty Mule Team Borax

Mix 2 cups glue with 1 1/2 cups cool water.  Set aside.  Divide the remaining 1 cup warm water into three paper cups.  One cup at a time, add 1 level teaspoon of Borax to the water and glue mixture.  Using your hands, screen the thickening mixture from the glue mixture.   Work it until it thickens and then proceed to the next cup of Borax mixture.   Gack should be stored I a plastic bag or air tight container and played with until gone.

schoolhome.gif (1893 bytes) Homemade Sidewalk Chalk

1 cup plaster of Paris

1/2 cup cold water

candy or popsicle molds

tempera paint (powdered is best)

Combine Plaster of Paris, water and tempera paint. The amount of tempera you add will determine how dark the colored chalk will be. Pour the mixture into candy or popsicle molds and let dry. Take the chalk out of molds and use for drawing on the sidewalk. This chalk will be most effective right after taking out of the molds.
