Eyes, of a fallen angel.
Eyes of a tragedy.
Here I am excepting just a little bit too much from the wounded.
But I see, see through it all, see through, see you.
A Perfect Circle -- 3 Libras
Ken’s POV
"Oh God no…" Tk gasped loudly, staring blankly at the fallen figure. Miyako screamed, throwing herself into his arms as he shielded her protectively, crying into her flowing purple hair.
"Tai!" Matt’s sharp cry pierced through the air as if he had been chewing on glass for a week. He instantly picked himself up off the ground and darted over to Tai’s side, holding his bloodied corpse tightly in his arms. The second Tai had seen the blast coming for Matt, he pushed him away, accepting the full force of the attack himself.
"Oh God Tai!" Kari sobbed, running over and picking up her brother’s limp hand. He was already dead the second he stepped in front of the light. That was how insanely powerful Daisuke was; his attack didn’t even have to hit.
It took a few seconds, but his mangled corpse began to delete. Matt was still crying hysterically as he watched the only person he ever loved disappear. If it hadn’t been so shocking, it would have been tremendously heartbreaking.
"Tai…" he completely collapsed, as Joe and Sora picked him up, practically dragging him away from the pool of blood, in an attempt to escape. But didn’t they know that it was no use by now? Daisuke was already slowly fixing the Mirrored Fate, and soon, everything that I ever feared would come true. I had spent the last six years of my life dreading this day, and now, it was upon me, petrifying me out of my mind.
"Dai stop this!" Mimi screeched, as Izzy pulled at her, trying to get her to move. But she was so paralyzed with fear and anger and grief that she had remained firmly in her place. "We’re your friends Daisuke! Stop this!"
"What friends?" he spat disgustedly. "I have no friends, and I would certainly never consider you weaklings to be anything more than insects that I have to crush!" my eyes shadowed over with sorrow. I couldn’t move or even protect myself from any of this, but that wasn’t the worst part. My friends were all slowly and painfully going to die. And the only person that ever mattered to me was going to be the executor.
"Whose next?" Tasuimon giggled, snaking her arm around his, and pulling herself closer to him than she already was. He looked over at me with those beautiful, yet completely empty mahogany eyes, smiling maliciously. I gulped, trying to avert my gaze, but he froze me on the spot.
"Whichever one begs the loudest." He purred smoothly, bringing his lips down on hers firmly. He knew this would hurt me more than any torture ever could. Twisted bastard…
"Everybody get out of here!" Tk stormed, taking on the commanders’ roll. With the two leaders gone, he took it upon himself to take over and protect them all. "Move now!"
It was an ingenious move really, because he figured out he would die last, Tasuimon couldn’t touch him now. Technically, all the second born children could stay, but he didn’t want to risk it. Not with the girl he loved there anyway.
"Aw, leaving so soon are we?" Daisuke laughed merrily as everyone flinched. His laughter was like a dull shiver that raced up my spine. Stingmon gathered me in his strong arms, hugging me close. "I don’t think so!" he commanded. "Drop him!"
I think I was the only one that noticed, but Daisuke gently touched his chest, wincing. His eyes softened slightly, his voice still domineering, but now there was a touch of compassion in it. Like a human.
"Over my dead body!" Stingmon snapped, refusing to let me go. He shot up, becoming air-born as Dai scowled deeply; his brow pulling together tightly.
"Do not tempt me Stingmon! Put him down this instant, or I’ll kill everyone in front of me right now! Screw ancient prophecies!" he shouted out in the most commanding and almighty tone possible.
"Stingmon please!" I begged, but he was still hesitant. "You have to do what he says! Please!"
"But Ken!" he started.
"Forget about me! I’m in no danger now! But the others are! Just do what he says!" I begged.
"Never were a stupid boy Ken." Tasuimon taunted, strolling over to me as soon as my Digimon set me down. "But in so many ways, you’re below a dunce. You just signed your death certificate!" once again, she wrapped her slender fingers around my neck, allowing the deadly needles to dig into my flesh.
"Tasuimon! No! Not him!" Daisuke bellowed. "How many times have I told you that you cannot hurt this one!"
"I’m so sorry love but, ugh, just the sight of it makes my stomach retch." She spat, shaking me slightly. The pain rushing around my neck was unbearable.
"Drop him!" he commanded, as the needles slid out, leaving two new holes. Instinctively I clutched at the wounds, coughing furiously. I squeezed my eyes shut, gasping as the cool air passed through my body, lighting it on fire.
All of a sudden, a firm pair of hands wrapped around my waist and picked me from the floor like an inured flower. A was hunched over, unable to even support my own weight. I could hear everyone shout my name, but for some reason, I couldn’t see them. I knew where they were, just, my eyes wouldn’t focus on anything! I couldn’t see a damn thing! Slowly by slowly, I began losing what was left of the basic senses I possessed, I could hear very little, see nothing and my voice was so weak. It got to the point that I was only aware of that fact someone was holding me.
"Daisuke…" I muttered, knowing perfectly well it was him. My breathing came in heavy rasps, almost as if I had just run a marathon. He gently dragged his fingers down my back, hushing me calmly.
"Don’t speak Ken." He pleaded. His voice donning a peaceful hint, as he softly turned me around in his arms so I was facing him. I could only picture his angelic face, not being able to see.
"What did you do to me?" I gasped, coughing again. This time, a warm, bitter liquid spilled out over the side of my mouth, running down the side of my cheek. Blood…
"Shh. Please, save your strength." He mumbled, cupping the side of my face lightly. "I wouldn’t like it much if you were to weak to move." He chuckled quietly so that only I could hear.
I heard a distinct tisk from Tasuimon as Dai continued to have a private conversation with me. Most of which was just drown out by the screaming my brain was doing.
Slowly, Dai lifted me so that my face was pressed against his chest. His fierce heartbeat pounding rhythmically to his steady breathing. His possessive hold was so warm and safe, that I shut my terror slicked eyes, and began breathing in sync with him. A soft laugh escaped his mouth.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I whispered, clutching onto his shirt, clenching my fists as hard as I could. He just took my fist in his hands, and delicately placed it on my chest.
"I’m sorry Ken, but I didn’t want you to see, or hear their screams. They’re almost haunting, and after awhile they follow you around, refusing to ever let you rest. I didn’t want you to experience that again."
"Please don’t do it." I coughed for a final time, before completely losing my hearing and speech. I began to cry, unable to do anything else, just sobbing for my friends’ souls.
Dai’s POV
I winced as Ken spoke to me. "Please don’t do it." He begged, trying desperately to convince me against hurting the remaining children. And even though I would have bent over backward for him, I couldn’t do as he asked.
I inhaled; giving his weeping body a final squeeze as I handed him to Flamdramon who took him in his arms. "If anything happens to him, you answer to me!" I snapped, watching the Digimon bow before backing up with Ken to a safer area.
A smile tugged the sides of my mouth as I let out a laugh that I had been suppressing for quite a while now. Tk, the new, proud leader glanced at me, his eyes unreadable and detached from their natural glow. "You’re a monster." He spat, clutching his D3 close to his side. "You killed Tai you… you…"
"Ah!" I silenced. "If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all." I mocked, laughing once again. "And spare me your self-righteous, brave faccedil;ade, I can tell you’re trembling with fear just looking at me. I’ve lived with that mask for so many years, never allowing the true me to shine!"
"And you think that by killing us, your friends, you’re proving something? You’re killing us Daisuke! Once humans die, we can’t come back in Digi-Eggs and have another shot at life, once we’re dead, we’re gone forever!"
"Thanks for the little reminder their Tk." I laughed sarcastically. "But I know that you fool! And if you think I care, then you are so deeply mistaken. What happens to you, any of you, is no concern to me."
His wide blue eyes suddenly flared, taking on as much fire as hell. "I swear to God Daisuke, lay a hand on any of them and I’ll kill you myself."
"If you think your little threat scares me, then you’re even stupider than you look. Listen up Tk, I’m only gonna say this once! All of you," I snapped, turning my gaze to each of them. Everyone was crying madly, all trying to still keep they’re chin’s up. Pathetic. "I will kill. You will all die today Digidestined! Mark my words!"
"Ah, not today my love." Tasuimon hushed. "But soon, very, very soon. You took your fist life today. And I am so proud of that. But please, give them time to let the pain and heartache set in. Let them cower in fear, wondering if they’re the next to go. And just when they think they’re out of the clear, destroy them! Crush their lives like the meager ants they are!"
"You’re a messed up lady!" Miyako shouted, stepping up dignified. "In fact, you’re just a screwed up bitch!"
"Sticks and stones…" she taunted breaking away from me, and striding over in Miyako’s direction. Tk valiantly stepped in front of her path, refusing to let her by.
"Don’t you even think about touching her." His words spat venom.
"As if you even scare me." She hissed, shoving him to the ground. "Daisuke, if you please. I think we can eliminate another one today. Theses children are so bothersome, like insects."
"Get the hell out of here now!" Tk bellowed as he stood up. I took a running charge at him, backhanding him right back down to the dirt he had just picked himself up from. He let out a choked sob, suppressing the obvious pain that was jutting through his face. I’m pretty sure I broke his jaw.
"So many to chose from!" I cried joyfully, as if I were getting to chose an ice cream flavor. "I think I’ll go for tall and red haired." At once, Izzy and Sora were protected by large, ferocious creatures; all told to attack me on sight.
"Run." I heard Mimi whisper to her girlfriend. "I’m not gonna let him get you Sora."
"Daisuke stop this madness!" Iori fumed. "Think about what you’re doing Dai!"
"I have, too much in fact. And this is what’s right. Don’t you see? Our lives, our lives were stolen from us! We were supposed to have a purpose! We were supposed to live these meaningful lives that would make us proud to wake up each morning! But instead, look at what we got. We’re empty souls searching for a cause! And now, I’m going to mend this."
"Dai this is wrong!" Kari screamed at me, still in shock from losing Tai. "We have a cause now, we’re supposed to protect this world! We’re people Daisuke! We might not be whole people, but we’re still people!"
"You can’t know what it’s like Kari!" I spat violently at her. "You’re not like I am! You’ll never be like I am!"
"But we are!" Miyako stated numbly. "Daisuke, we’re affected too! Iori and myself! We’re the same as you. We’re empty inside, and we learned to fill that void with love and happiness… why can’t you?"
"Because evil and hatred got there first." I retorted, my voice not even echoing sarcasm. "I was born for the soul purpose of killing. I’m not a person! I’m a monster!" I yelled, my voice overcome with emotion.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Tasuimon glare at something in me. She saw deep into the heart of who I was; one of the only people that could truly see every fiber in my body was laced with corruption. I wasn’t even part human; I was a Virus.
"And by killing us you’re proving to yourself that you’re really that monster! Is that what you want!?" Sora declared. "Is that what you’re trying to do Daisuke? Prove to yourself that the evil really has gotten to you? That you’ll never be able to experience happiness?"
"Oh shut up." I sighed, instantly forming a blade in my hands. The cool feel of the energy pulsated around me, engulfing my right hand in a rage that itched. And the only thing that would stop the itch would be to throw it. "I’m going to complete my destiny, regardless of the consequences."
My pinky twitched violently, as the weapon levitated from my grasp. I launched out, quicker than anyone could follow and appeared next to Sora. One hand shot out, grasping tightly at her fiery hair, pulling it back so her neck was fully exposed to me. Birdramon spat out blast after blast of hot scorching boulders, but they barely nicked me.
Without even thinking, I shot out a blast of energy, hitting the Digimon square in the stomach. It propelled to the ground with a thud, causing the sand to kick up around all of us. Sora used to instant my grasp lessened to pull away and run briefly. Good, hunting for my prey was much more fun that just capturing it.
Stop! Something in the back of m mind screamed, trying desperately to push through and be heard. Stop this right now Daisuke! I pushed that meek voice away without any effort.
"Stupid, stupid Sora." I muttered, darting off in her direction, easily catching up to her. The blade just sliced through her like butter. The yellow dagger now stained with a rich crimson. I smirked sadistically, as I twisted the blade in her, getting a bloodcurdling scream out of her still lively body. But then, I ripped it out of her, kicking at her still corpse. She let out one final moan of agony, before succumbing to the darkness that was plummeting around her.
"No!" Mimi cried, collapsing on the ground, just as Matt had. The pain was mirrored right now. Both of their partners gone now. Mimi was now bawling hysterically, her loud sobs ringing through the empty land.
"Come on Tasuimon. Let’s leave them now. I’ve tired of this boring game of seek and kill." I yawned heartlessly. My gaze now on my beautiful companion. Bits of Sora whizzed by me in a frenzy of colors, vanishing into the sky.
"Yes my King." She smiled widely, taking her place by my side. "Dispose of that thing Flamdramon." She ordered as he set down Ken, lightly, in the sand. As soon as his hands touched solid earth, his slender fingers grabbed at dirt, raking it in painfully.
I knew he knew another had just died, I could see it in his piercing amethyst eyes, so filled with sorrow and… guilt? We left that glorious space, spilled with the blood of the previous Digidestined. The scent still lingered freshly, a smell I would never forget. And as we disappeared, I heard Miyako’s cry, as she clutched at her chest, falling in the dirt.
XXX’s POV
Today was definitely a day worth celebrating. And celebrate we did. Daisuke was a gorgeous creature, marvelous and glorifying all wrapped up into one. Ever atom that he constituted from was hand chosen from perfection. Absolute perfection.
And I was allowed once again to marvel in godliness. I was allowed to bask in his undying affection and passion. A passion that was only matched by his strength and agility. And I could clearly remember a time when I thought I had lost him for good. Every time I looked down to the earth and witnessed his affection being drawn to another. That girl…
I shook my head of that though. He was with me now, and that was all that mattered. In the end, I was the one that shared his soul… his mind… is body… ooh, that perfect body of his. The one I would write my praise on every night.
He was my happiness in the Digiworld. He had been, and he always will be. And I wouldn’t let anything take him away from me. God, all those times I went around as that human… that weak, vulnerable human. Every time I entered the real world, I would embody human qualities. Those insecurities that every human lived with up until the day their one fear finally consumed them. The day death graciously opened the door to free them.
Now, it was different. I had actually carried a few of those pestersome feelings back with me. I allowed them to root themselves in my brain as a human, and now, when I was a Digimon… well, self-explanatory. I sighed deeply, placing my head down on his bare chest, allowing my hair to spill out everywhere.
The room was so dark and empty. Even though the light in my life was there with me. And I began to curse Gennai with every ounce of life that flowed through me. The only thing I ever wanted in this world was to have him back with me, ruling over the Digiworld like we were supposed to.
But no, now he was taken. Physically, he was mine. By emotionally, he was someone else’s. And no matter how many times I told myself that having his body and undying loyalty were enough, a part of me, the human side of me, screamed for more.
I wonder if Daisuke knew it himself? That I was merely controlling his mind and body, that I was the one that reconstructed him. Well, what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. That’s for sure. And I needed to hold the all off till the Dendrite Moon. Only on that day could he kill the final Child. The Child of Friendship. Because if by some fluke accident, something went wrong and the prophecy was changed, everything would be lost.
And right now, I was too close to having everything I wanted to let some little error screw everything up. And besides. After that night, he could kill them any way he pleased. As long as he left me the holder of his heart. Only so I could smile down at him, and rip out his own.
Yes, something pleasant to look forward too. Something pleasant indeed.
Ken’s POV
I don’t even remember how long I was out for. The only thing that seemed to phase me, was the fact there was a sharp stinging coming from the side of my face. As soon as one of my pale lavender eyes shot open, the stinging stopped.
"He’s awake." Iori sighed deeply, not at all thrilled. I groaned, touching the side of my head in pain. I coughed suddenly, feeling a ripping pain in my neck as my fingers instantly clasped around the bandage that was there.
"What happened?" I asked, still in a daze.
"He got Sora." Joe whispered quietly. His head hung low as he tossed a look over at Mimi who was sitting in a corner, a glazed, monotone look on her face. "And Tai too. They’re both… gone." He muttered, as if only admitting it to himself now.
"Oh God no…" I winced. Four more… only four more people till he was finished. With four more deaths, the Digiworld as we know it would be destroyed; finished; annihilated.
"So whose next?" Joe demanded to know. "We have to know which of us is next!" he said, looking at me.
"Why are you asking me?" I asked bluntly, his eyes boring a hole in my head. "I don’t know!"
"But you just happened to know everything else!" he spat sarcastically. "God-dammit Ken, just tell us!"
"Look Joe, I have no bloody clue which of you is going! How am I supposed to know such a thing? And even if I did, don’t you think I would have warned Tai or Sora? Come on Joe, use your head!" I snapped, standing up shakily, as I began my way over to a chair.
"You don’t get it do you?" he hissed. "Ken, we’re going to die! All of us in this room are going to get murdered! And unlike some people, I’m not just going to sit around and watch my friends die!"
"What are you accusing me of Kido?" I belted out. "That… that I’m purposely keeping things from you? You know as much as I do Joe! I want to help all of you out, but I can’t! And that’s not my fault!"
"Will you two just shut up!?" Mimi screamed, jumping up. Her fists balled tightly to her sides and her face was bright red. "Stop fighting! I hate fighting!"
"I’m sorry Mimi." Joe sighed deeply, looking apologetically at me. "It’s just… I… I can’t… won’t let anything happen to Izzy. I don’t care what happens to me, I just can’t watch him die."
"We know how you feel Joe." Iori sympathized. "I don’t want anything happening to anyone of us, and right now, we have to stay as a group! We can’t let ourselves get torn apart so easily!"
As soon as the younger child had started speaking, Izzy and Gennai came walking through the door. Both had a somber look on their faces, not giving off a single hint to what they were feeling. Izzy, looked as if his brain were going to explode in his head.
"Ken," his voice cracked, "can I talk to you please?" his black eyes met mine instantly; the sorrow that was shinning in them was almost unheard of.
"Sure." I muttered, slowly making my way over to the two. Gennai left us alone in one room, shutting the door tightly. Inside, my eyes fell upon several stacks of paper, books spilling out of every nook and cranny, and there were slabs of stone all hunched in a pile; each covered in a thick layer of dust.
"Ken, you know don’t you?" he asked quietly, choking back some tears. He had to bite his lip harshly to keep from breaking down. He squeezed his hand together tightly, shielding something in his grasp mysteriously.
"I just figured it out Izzy. I’m so sorry." I tried to comfort. "I know… I know when all…"
"So do I. Trust me, I know already." He almost laughed. "I was reading over some of thee books here. I know how all of us go. And, oddly enough, how our future selves die. It’s all here Ken!" he exclaimed, spreading his arms and circling the room, exposing it like a show.
"Izzy?" I asked a little uneasily as I reached out to touch his shoulder. He harshly brushed my hand away, almost slapping at my arm.
"Don’t touch me! Just don’t touch me!" he screamed. "Ken, I know! I know everything!" Almost immediately, I knew what was wrong with him. He was going insane… not a mentally insane thing, just overloaded with information insane. He started to laugh bitterly, collapsing to the cold, marble ground. "God Ken…"
"I’m sorry." I sighed. I knew in my heart that was the only thing I could say. "But Izzy, we can change it now! We can fix things!"
"No… we can’t Ken, that’s the thing. Right now, at this very moment, the Mirrored Fate is flipping. I… I…" he stammered. "Ken, do you even know the whole, whole story?"
"No." I said truthfully.
"It’s so horrible." He sniffed. "Ken, all those years ago, we were tortured. We were tormented and we were hunted, and we suffered so much. And it was all because we were different. We had this power that people were scared of, and they used that as some type of excuse to hunt us. And everything happened just the way it was now."
"Hun?" I spluttered, unsure of hat he was saying.
"My parents are dead Ken. And that was because of what the people did! They mutilated my parents in front of me! They mercilessly killed the right before my very eyes taunting me to come help them; to use my ‘powers’ to save them. And I couldn’t. And now, all because of that, they’re dead! You see, even though I know this now, I can’t do anything, because they’re dead for good! Just the way it’s supposed to happen with us!" he shuffled over to a table, grabbing it with his hands to support his weight. "But I’m not going to let it all go down like that this time."
"Izzy…" I trailed off, picking up the hint of insanity in his voice. "Izzy what do you mean?"
"If things change, I mean, if they get all screwed up, there might be a change things will be different. Even if it’s only by a little bit, things might change! And that’s a chance I have to take!"
"Izzy what the hell are you talking about?" I screamed at him, taking a step forward and causing a huge pile of books to topple over. The crash sounded like lightening as it echoed through the room, alarming the others instantly. Within a second the door sung open, and everyone had entered, all of them worried.
The redhead began to cry lightly. Sparkling tears slid off his cheeks easily as he looked up, his gaze instantly falling on Joe. His bottom lip trembled quickly, almost uneasily as he tried to pull his mouth into a weak smile. "I’m so sorry Joe." He whispered. "Please forgive me."
"Izzy…" his partner spluttered, stepping forward, almost rushing over to his side. But in the split second it took Joe to move up, Izzy swiftly revealed his cloaked object; a piece of broken rubble.
My eyes widened with fear, and my body instantly froze like an ice statue. And it was over even before I could blink. With an amazing amount of grace and speed, the short genius stabbed himself right in the heart, tumbling into Joe’s body.
His midnight eyes fluttered shut as a single drop of blood escaped his body, splashing on the floor. Everyone held their breath, unable to move; we were all in a state of utter shock!
And bells began to ring. Once, two, three. Each chime getting louder and louder with every deafening bang. Twelve strokes in all. Midnight. And it was at that second that Iori let out a piercing scream, falling to the ground clutching at his chest tightly.
