Totem: Grandfather Thunder
The Shining Host, led by Raphael Trask, was a small
pack of Garou in the Sept of Gaia's
Strength. Trask came to the Sept of Gaia's Strength from another
Sept far away. Little is known about why he left that place; all
he ever said about the topic was, "I will no longer associate with those
Garou, they are beneath me." It is believed by his detractors that
he was tossed out of his old Sept for either political reasons or some
violation of the Litany. If he had truly breached Litany Law, however,
Trask would probably have been hunted down. He was not Ronin, as
Zephyr
at Dawn made a careful check before allowing Trask to become a member
of the Sept.
After arriving in Michigan, Trask gathered a few
other "Garou-without-a-cause," forming The Shining Host. He
also actively recruited members of the Ice Knife
after the death of Frostrunner. The Host would defend and bring great
renown to The Sept of Gaia's Strength, or so Trask hoped.
When the Banes and Fomori attacked the Sept, Trask
and Rends Stone were the only members of The Host to survive. Since
then, the avatar of Grandfather Thunder has not been seen nor felt in the
Sept. The popular wisdom of the Sept claimed that, with the membership
of the Pack in ruins and their ability to act so restricted, Thunder withdrew
his favor until Trask could recruit new packmates and prove himself a worthy
leader again.
Trask instead became an agent of the Wyrm, hidden
in plain sight within the Sept. His disguise was so complete that
he was named Wyrmfoe after joining the Wyrm. His goal was to provide
the Wyrm with intelligence on the whereabouts of the Children
of the Sun and the defenses of the Caern. His plotting culminated
with an attack on the Ann Arbor Glass
Walkers, which was then used as part of an accusation that Kyla
Dragonslayer was of the Wyrm. The Challenge resulted in the death
of Raphael Trask.
Trask's past is still somewhat hazy. Because of that, he was never
highly trusted by many in the Sept. He always tried to move up the pecking
order in the Sept through political means rather than leading his Pack
into more active pursuits. He was eventually granted the title of
Wyrmfoe, possibly to keep him occupied. He resented the Children
of the Sun for their meteoric rise in the Sept and, on more than one occasion,
tried to dirty their reputations as a way of enhancing his own. These efforts
always backfired.
Trask's betrayal and death have left
the Sept shaken.
