Knife was killed by Black Spiral Dancers while tracking a Fomor known
as the Hook. His vision of a pack dedicated to the defense of the
caern is carried on by his successor, Cry of Winds, and the remaining members
of the Pack.

The late Master
of the Challenge died defending East Wind against an attack of banes
and fomori which pressed to the very center of the caern. The story
of this battle was later told by Cry
of Winds. Her death caused her daughter, Madonna
Backhand, to fall into Harano until Kyla Dragonslayer
was able to contact Maria's spirit and let the two say good-bye.
