After Surgery
from a wife's point of view
Here we are in January of 2002. Doug is doing great! He has lost 135 pounds as of last week. He hopes to lose that much again. I hope that he can, but truthfully, if he doesn't lose another pound, I'll be happy. He can move around, help me around the house, and travel. These are some of the things he couldn't do which prompted us to pursue the surgery for him.
As his wife, I find myself having to keep quiet when I think he's eating too much, or too fast, or not chewing enough. He does sometimes throw up, but it's not so often that the doctor is worried about it.
One of our favorite new things to do is to get Doug's old clothes out of storage and have him try them on. He's lost 4 shirt sizes and gone from a 72 waist to a 58-60.
March 2002
Doug is now in a size 54-56 pants and size 3X shirt. His weight loss has really slowed down from the dramatic losses we were seeing for the first 6 months. I am still thrilled because he is doing housework that he couldn't do before. I thank God that my true husband can finally emerge. When we got married I told him that I'd love to take dance lessons with him (I used to be a ballroom dance teacher). He always said we'd do it sometime, but somehow never agreed to it when I brought it up. Last month he told me to find a place for us to take lessons so we'd be ready for my niece's wedding in May. We've been taking a lesson a week and really enjoying it. I've been taking pictures of him that I keep nagging him to put on here, so hopefully you'll be able to see the results soon.
