Smiley What's this?

Well... this is one of those silly things I like to do during my lunch hour. I don't know why I do it, I just do. I drew this bitmap in about 45 minutes during lunch on Feb 4, 1997, in case you care.

I was sitting there thinking about the fact that every time you select "Shut Down" on a Windows 95 machine, the background goes slightly darker. I thought, Hmm... I wonder if I could hide a picture in a background image that would only show when the user selects "Shut Down". So I did.

What does it do? While displaying this page on your screen, click your Start button on the task bar and select "Shut Down"... Now, don't really shut down your machine or you won't be able to download this cool bitmap. When you select "Shut Down" while displaying this bitmap, you will see a hidden smiley.

There are 4 hidden smileys, but you will notice that you can only see two. That is because I don't know where your browser is on the screen. If you move the browser one pixel in any direction, then the OTHER two smileys will show when you pretend to Shut Down.

So, download the bitmap below and use it as your Win95 background. Whenever you shut down, it displays the smiley.

How does it work, you ask? Well, I'll leave that as an exercise for the student.

Get the cool bitmap. Use this for your win95 background... don't use the one shown above.

What? This doesn't have anything to do with the HP48? So sue me.

It's not my fault... they made me put this on here!
