Environmental Web Quest

I. Overview:  In this web quest students will be finding out information about all three types of pollution (air, land, and water).  They will individually find information about one type of pollution, then get together with a group of 3.  With the group students will create a poster, commercial, and poems. 

II. Instruction:  Begin with sharing with students some data about all three types of pollution. This information should get students interested, emotional, and excited.  A good book that could be read prior to this includes Chris Van Allsburg’s “Just a Dream.”  This book tells about a child who doesn’t care about recycling, and a dream he has about what the world might be like if he doesn’t start recycling.

III. Questions:  What are the different types of air pollution, and land pollution?

                        What measures can be taken to conserve our land, water, and air?

                        Who or What is affected by air, land, and water pollution?

            Tasks:  

·        Become an expert about land, air, and water pollution and environmental conservation.

·        Create a poster that visually illustrates the different types of air, land, and water pollution.

·        Get your classmates’ attention and give a memorable message about who/what is affected by land air and water pollution.

·        Demonstrate your commitment to conserving out environment by writing a poem.

           

Roles:  In groups of three (3) complete the following.

·        One will learn about different types of land pollution.  Who is affected by land pollution and land conservation efforts?

·        One will learn about different types of air pollution.  Who is affected by air pollution and air conservation efforts?

·        One will learn about the different types of water pollution.  Who is affected by water pollution, and water conservation efforts?

 

IV.              Process

You need to explore the following areas

·        Different types of land, air, and water pollution.

·        Conservation of land, air and water conservation

·        Who/What  is affected by land, air, and water pollution?

With a partner, students must ultilize the information that was found.  Partners must design the following:

·        Poster – Visual illustration with the different types of air, land, and water pollutions

·        Commercial – With amessage about about who/what is effected by land, air, water pollution.

·        Poem – demonstrating you commitment for conservation air, land, and water.

After completing the research on the quest, the members of the team must:

·        Make a presentation to the class on their findings using their poster and poem.

·        Present a videotaped commercial to the class.
