AYERS ROCK

We flew into Ayers Rock in the center of Australia's outback early afternoon, and after checking into the Spiniflex Lodge (our budget bunkbed and shared bathroom accommodations) we headed off for a tour by Uluru Experience Tours of the Olgas (Kata Tjuta) rock formation.

The Olgas are a formation of 36 large red domed rocks in the outback near Ayers. To the left we take a walk through a canyon gorge between two of the rocks. The area had received twice the normal amount of rain for the time of year, so the outback desert plants were all in bloom.

I searched diligently for kangaroos hopping in the outback to no avail. We did see 2 wild dingoes, including this black dingo.

At sunset we went to a viewing area to enjoy watching the Olgas take on a warm glow as the setting sun reflected on the red rock formations.
