William Martin was thought to have been born in Drumacrib in County Monaghan, Ireland ca. 1770. He later married Elizabeth Bowhannan also from the same area.
John Martin, second son of William Martin, and his wife, was born in Mullyash tl., Monaghan Co., Ireland. He married Margaret Dodds 29 December 1825 and they lived in the towns of Armagh and Newry, County Armagh, Ireland.
John and Margaret Martin and their two daughters sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on the ship Golconda out of Liverpool, England. They landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after 42 days at sea on 25 May 1830.
He immigrated as a farmer, but was also known to have been a part time stonemason and livestock trader in Ireland. From Philadelphia the immigrants journeyed to Freeport, Pennsylvania in Westmoreland County. Ib 1833 they moved to Mercen County, Pennsylvania where John and a friend, James R. Martin, bought the Thomas Bond Tract near Eastbrook, Pennsylvania in Mercer County.
John and Margaret had ten children: Elizabeth, Anne, Margaret, Mary, James Dodds, William, George, Daniel Cargill, Thomas John and E.G.
Elizabeth Martin was born 27 September 1826 in Mullyash tl., Monaghan Co., Ireland. She married Henry Gillespie on 04 April 1853 and they had the following children: Margarite (Maggie), John, Anna Mary and William Henry, my Grandfather.
