Folk Tales of the Skermer Name

There's a site on the Internet that tells that folk lore holds that the Skermer name was of Norse decent and came to Wales with the Viking raids in the 9th or 10th century. There was also mention of a SKOMER Island off Pembrokeshire as evidence of this.

It goes on to say that one book even shows the name SKIRME and says itis derived from medieval French ESKERMER which means Fencing Master. They list other spellings as well SKYRME, SKIRME, SKIRMSHIRE, SKERMER, SKIRMER and SKIRME.

News from the Web

Letters and E-mails from visitor's to the GEMS Web Site

I recently heard from a man named "Andy" who wrote that his Great Grandfather, William Farmer, was the husband of our Pricilla Ursula Skermer S000214. I'm hoping to hear from Andy again as he said he had some other information he might share with us.

Thanks Andy
