Level 5 - Freezeezy Peak

Quick Analysis
An ice level? In an adventure game? What an innovative concept! (Insert haughty sarcasm here.) Seriously, the snow is a new surface that alters Banjo's movement slightly. There's no need to overdo the control in this level. Watch out for steep slopes, they may just send Banjo into the icy waters!

Map
Show me the map of Freezeezy Peak (71K).

Where's the Mole?
1. Look in the southwest area, behind the boxes of presents where the pink Jinjo is. He teaches the Beak Bomb (press B while flying; uses one red feather).

Easy Jigsaw Pieces
See the map for a more precise look at the Jigsaw pieces' locations.

  1. Snowman's Pipe - Jump into the snowman's pipe by climbing up the scarf in the back.
  2. Sled On the Bear - Look for a sled atop the snowman's scarf. Ride it until it hits a bear in the stomach.
  3. Smash Big Buttons - Notice how the big snowman's buttons look suspiciously like targets? That's because they are. Dash at each one while flying (first learn Beak Bomb) to reveal a puzzle piece that appears on the gigantic snowman's hat.
  4. Find Presents - Get three presents for the children in the igloo. Find the first inside the big Christmas tree-climb the stump below it to get inside. The second present is in front of the gigantic snowman on its scarf. The third present is on an island in the northeast area. Look on the map for exact locations.
  5. First Race - Turn into the walrus. Race the bear on the sled (this only happens after the bear's stomachache is cured); run between the flags in this slalom race. This race is relatively easy since the walrus can go into icy waters without getting hurt
  6. Walrus - While playing as the walrus, visit the shy walrus after finishing the race.
  7. Jinjos - All Jinjos are outside, except for the yellow Jinjo (in Mumbo's hut) and the orange one (in the walrus cave).

Difficult Jigsaw Pieces
See the map for a more precise look at the Jigsaw pieces' locations.

  1. Light Up the Tree - Stomp on the present in front of the Christmas tree. Little lights will come out of it and walk to the tree. Stomp on the lizards' heads to clear a path. Don't even try to save all the lights; some will die. Focus on the lizard heads, and stomp on them in the same order - close, middle, far just before a light gets to each lizard. After saving the lights, shoot at the switch behind the tree and run to the flight platform near the stash of presents. Finally, fly through the star above the tree three times.
  2. Kill All Snowmen - Actually, this is only tough if Banjo misses a target and kisses the ice at high speed. Using the Beak Bomb, kill all the snowball-hurling snowmen on the level by hitting the X's on their black hats.
  3. Second Race - Here's the first puzzle piece that requires backtracking from a later level. Learn the sprint shoes skill in Gobi's Valley, then return to the start line where the first sled race took place. Challenge the bear to a race. Grab the sprint shoes just as Banjo crosses the starting line. Now run through the slalom. What makes this challenging isn't the course, but rather the camera angle and the bear. Both contribute to losing sight of Banjo at crucial points during the race, so it helps to build an early lead. At all costs, avoid touching icy water or missing a gate-both create an instant loss. Fortunately, no health is lost by losing a race, so keep plugging away at the goal!

The 5 Jinjo's
There are 5 Jinjo's to rescue in each level. If you collect all of them you'll be rewarded with a Jigsaw piece and later on ...

Blue Jinjo - On the top of Snowman's broom.
Green Jinjo - Look behind on of the snowbound cabins, near the back of the area.
Pink Jinjo - On top of the big stack of presents, where you learned the Beak Bomb.
Orange Jinjo - On a ledge inside Wozza's cave.
Yellow Jinjo - On the high shelf in Mumbo's hut.

Honeycomb Pieces
First - One of the killed snowmen leaves it behind as a reward.
Second - As the walrus, enter the cave and go through the tiny waterway. It leads to another room.

100 Music Notes
Once again there 100 musical notes scattered around Freezeezy Peak. Collect all of these notes and you will be able you to open the special note doors later on in Gruntilda's Lair.

5 Notes - On the first slope from the starting point.
4 Notes - On the second slope from the starting point.
5 Notes - Behind the Christmas Tree.
4 Notes - Around the small snowman near Wozza's cave.
4 Notes - On top of the small thin present near Bottles Molehill.
4 Notes - On the platform at the start of the sled race.
6 Notes - On top of the cabins/huts near Mumbo's hut.
20 Notes - Along the giant Snowman's scarf.
8 Notes - On top of the giant Snowman's hat.
10 Notes - Around the giant Snowman's legs.
12 Notes - Inside the Christmas Tree.
  4 Notes - Outside Wozza's cave.
  6 Notes - Inside Mumbo's hut.
8 Notes - In the cold pool near Mumbo's hut.

The Mumbo Tokens
To reach Mumbo's hut you must leap over the freezing cold water. The shaman has a new spell for you to try but you must have enough tokens before the magic will work. Here are the locations of the Mumbo tokens hidden around this frosty level.

Token   1 - In th water near Wozza's cave.
Token   2 - By the giant Snowman's feet.
Token   3 - By the giant Snowman's feet.
Token   4 - Underneath one of the small snowman.
Token   5 - Underneath one of the small snowman.
Token   6 - Behind the slope near the Pink Jinjo.
Token   7 - In the Christmas Tree.
Token   8 - Inside the Igloo at the start.
Token   9 - At the top of the jump for the sled ride.
Token 10 - By the house nearest Mumbo's hut.

Gruntilda Stomp Switch
Beak Bomb the snowman in the southwest area, near the Christmas tree. He protects the switch.

Tips
Snowmen! - The best way to get rid of snowmen is to fly at them until Kazooie's head completely blocks the view of the red X on the snowman's hat. At that point, dash right at the hat. Avoid attacking from a high angle, because missing increases the chances of smacking into the ground. A final quick note: To see how accurate their thrown snowballs really are, get close to a snowman and switch to the first-person view-watch that snowball come flying right at you!

Fly Smarter - The keys to flying: First, never pick up red feathers after you've collected the maximum number - it's a needless waste. Second, if you're doing a fly-by of a level, run up to the highest flying disc rather than find one at a low altitude. You can use just one feather to scan a whole level, as long as you take off from a high-up spot.
