Dr. Majid Ali Abidi joins the Editorial Board as Executive Editor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine

 

KARACHI Oct 29: Dr. Majid graduated in medicine (MBBS) from Sindh Medical College, University of Karachi in 1995. He did his internship in Surgery and Psychiatry at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. On completion he joined Department of Psychiatry as postgraduate trainee for MCPS (Member College of Physicians & Surgeons) in Psychiatry and successfully completed all requisite examinations in first attempt. He has also served in the School of Nursing JPMC as a Visiting Instructor of Psychiatry. He has earned an MBA degree and successfully using his skills in the administrative aspects of academics and research.

After acquisition of postgraduate qualification he worked as Consultant Psychiatrist in G.A. Asghar Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences till Dec 1999. Since January 2000 to date, he has been working as Consultant Psychiatrist in Hamdard College of Medicine & Dentistry, Hamdard University Hospital. He also took part in clinical trials of "Olazapine" and "Venalfaxin" in Pakistani patients at JPMC Karachi. There are a number of research papers published in different scientific journals on his credit. He also conducted a series of training workshops for family physicians. Currently he is involved in a project of Liaison Psychiatry involving very large number of patients at Hamdard University Hospital. He has attended various psychiatry conferences organized by Pakistan Psychiatric Society and received an award of "Youngest Psychiatrist of Pakistan" in XIIth International Psychiatry Conference held at Quetta, Pakistan.

He is also a recipient of fellowship "8th World Congress of Biological Psychiatry" held in 2001 at Berlin, Germany. During his professional career, he is very busy with welfare activities. Currently, he is Chairman of an NGO "Healthcare Forum Pakistan" (www.healthcareforumpak.org). This NGO is working for enhancing awareness regarding hazards of heroin addiction. He has organized a number of seminars, workshops, symposia and other activities in this regard. He was also Chairman of organizing committee of National Narcotics Conference held at Karachi in June 2002. Dr. Majid also holds the Chair of Board of Visitors for Addiction Centre in Pakistan.
