d. Mount steering column to dash spacers but do not tighten. Reconnect all wiring and plastic covering then tighten all bolts on column. e. Place steering column brace on top of column and mark firewall flange for drilling. Drill a 5/16" hole in the plate and install the brace. Fasten the brace to the column using a hose clamp. f. Notch cover and replace it over the new firewall flange. Use a tie strap for the top of cover. g. Trim lower plastic dash to fit. 44. (cont.) Re-instal the steering column: 2" kit only a. Grind weld off firewall flange so that firewall can move freely on column. Notch flange so taht the column can be moved down. Cut a notch 1 1/2" wide by 1" down. b. Install column dash spacers in dash. Place spacers so the long slotted hole points toward the firewall. c. Loosely fasten the column to the dash after the shaft has been connected to the steering box. d. Install the steering shaft bolt to the steering box. Do not tighten so that the column can be adjusted. e. Fasten the firewall plate to the firewall securely. f. Reconnect all column wiring. g. Install top and botton steering column plastic covers. h. Adjust column so steering cover will not interfire with the dash when the column is at it's lowest point in the firewall notch. Tighten steering shaft bolt securely at the steering box. i. Take the steeing column (C) bracket as a guide and mark the firewall plate so that when the bracket is mounted on top of the steering column, the steering column will be located in the lowest part of the firewall plate notch. Then drill two 5/16" holes and fasten brackets and tighten securely. j. Check all column functions and check all bolts and nuts that they are securely fastened. |

k. Notch column cover and install cover using tie staps for top holes. l. Trim lower plastic dash cover to fit. 45. Install front bumper: 2wd only Bolt bumper plates to front mounts on stock bumper brackets that are welded to frame. Measure from center of rear bolt holes up 2" for 2" kit and up 3" for 3" kit and drill 1/16" hole. Then remount the bumper mount bracket to bumper plate and to the new holes drilled in bracket. 4wd only Bolt four bumper plates to stock bumper brackets that are welded to frame then mount bumper to bumper plates. 46. Remove the styrofoam from inside the shift boot and remount shift boot. 47. Tack weld bed spacers to frame. 48. Start engine and check for leaks. 49. Make sure shifter clears in all gears. If not, you will need to notch the floorpan. Re-install carpet and plate. 50. Double check vehicle: a. Check all hardware b. Be sure that the radiator fan has ample clearance. c. Check wires, hoses, cables, etc., for excessive tightness d. Start engine e. Check brakes and parking brake f. Check steering from left to right to make sure it doesn't bind. g. Test drive all gears. h. Enjoy "Off-Roadin". |
