Changes
Lindsey watched Angel's human plains change into his demonic counterpart.
He'd seen the dark man vamping out before but never so close, never so..., so...naturally, so... non-threatening...
His eyes followed Angel's every move, caught every cringe, every frown and blink.
He couldn't even lower his eyes, when the vampire brought his wrist to his mouth and sank his fangs in the cool flesh.
This was all so new to him. He couldn't believe that Angel felt comfortable enough around him to let him see his true face. Given, they'd always had some kind of weird connection going on, but never ever had he imagined him to allow him this close.
But then again, if not for the smaller and obviously weaker vampire now cradled to Angel's chest... Within the fracture of a second his high disappeared. No, Angel would never do this because he felt comfortable around Lindsey, this was all about him - William. The new vampire. A wave of red hot jealousy eventually made him lower his gaze - he most definitely didn't want Angel to find out about his weakness.
Out of the very corner of his eyes he watched a drowsy pair of blue eyes curiously peer at the bleeding wrist Angel had brought up in front of his nose. Stunned, Lindsey waited for him to drop his human mask and change into his demon, but much to his surprise nothing such happened.
The skinny brunette merely leaped at the crimson red liquid a couple of time, before his long lashes fluttered and fell shut. A steep frown appeared on Lindsey's smooth forehead - wasn't feeding supposed to strengthen a vampire? And if so, why did it drain William that much that he actually fell asleep over it?
Knowing there was no way he could avoid Angel forever, Lindsey turned around to meet the vampire's dark eyes.
"What's wrong with him?" He asked, jerking his head towards the sound asleep figure.
"Could you bring his blanket, Lin?" Ignoring the questioning look, Angel rose to his feet.
The former lawyer obediently reached for the fluffy blue cover William originally had wrapped himself in, before he got up as well.
"It's his security blanket - Buffy's blanket to be exact, Dawn has given it to him..."
Buffy? Dawn?
Lindsey scrunched up his nose all the while padding after Angel.
He didn't have a clue of what dark and broody was talking about, sure, he'd heard the name before - Buffy - but still, it didn't ring a bell.
Anyway, how come Angel had allowed himself to get involved with all that many people? Riley, William, Buffy, Dawn... What happened to his lone raider image?
Watching Angel place the sleeping brunette on the far end of the bed, Lindsey once again felt a nasty pang of jealousy, why did this William twit got to sleep in Angel's bed?
"C'mon, Lin, have a seat."
His eyes nearly popped out of his head, when his brain finally realized that the dark-haired vampire was talking to him, more precisely patting the empty spot next to him, gesturing him to join him on the huge queen-size bed.
Lindsey hesitated and blushed, feeling royally uncomfortable.
"Lindsey..."
"Angel..."
Within the fracture of a second the younger man found himself pressed flush against the vampire's broad chest.
"I'm so sorry, Lin, I never should have done this to you..."
Angel's strong hand gently closed around Lindsey's once injured right wrist.
"...so many things I shouldn't have done..."
For one brief second he buried his face in the ex-lawyer's soft locks.
Lindsey couldn't but gasp.
Something definitely was wrong.
Alright, they hadn't parted on angry terms, but still...
Something must have happened during the time he'd been away.
Why else was he behaving all un-angelly?
This Angel was so different to the Angel he'd known as this Lindsey was from the one once employed by Wolfram & Hart - at least he hoped that there was a difference between the two of them.
There had been a time when he'd almost hated him.
The night he'd taken his hand for example.- although even then, a part of him had known that his very actions had forced the decision on Angel. He had been given a choice, more than one to be exact, and he'd blown it. Instead of doing the right thing, he'd preferred to crawl back to Wolfram & Hart. Not so much because he wanted to but because of his own insecurity - what after he'd allowed Angel to save his soul?
Would the dark-haired vampire have been willing to share his place in life?
And if so, what was his - Lindsey McDonalds's - place in life anyway?
"things have changed around here. "Hypnotized by the sound of his voice Lindsey couldn't but nod. "Listen, Lin, you're tired - why don't I take you to your room, so you can get some sleep?"
Angel quietly loosened his vice-like embrace.
Their eyes met and held, either unsure what to say.
With a brief nod Lindsey eventually turned to leave.
He shuddered, inwardly, this new Angel..., he was scaring the life out of him.
