Every semi-cognitive student using the Internet and/or computers
at Rheumatic Tamale must agree to abide by the rules in the following Internet
Student "Agreement". Violation of the "agreement" may result in disciplinary
action, such as wantonly distributed detention or eternal banishment from the
computers. The Agreement will never be revised, but you're obligated to read it every time you sit down at one of the computers. You know what, why don't you just go read one of the hundreds of books in this library. Then, you won't end up like me, reduced to creating pathetic parodies of school sites because all my creative faculties have been sucked out by these computers.
Rheumatic Tamale Internet Student "Agreement"

Educational Purposes
-
Internet access is for educational use only, or for things that look like
they're "educational". Computer use will be observed closely by the librarians,
even though there is blocking software on the computers, which prevent
us from doing anything illegal, and if students abuse this privilege by
using technology for "non-educational" purposes, they will be asked to
relinquish the computer to others who might need to access the Internet
for homework or other class work, or who do a better job of faking it.
-
There is to be no playing of games on the school's computers, unless it's
after 4:00 and you know what web sites aren't blocked. They have to write
this anyway.
-
Access to multimedia content (sound and/or video files) on the Internet
is prohibited with the exception of access for a school or class assignment,
but even if you did need it for a school assignment, you wouldn't be able
to, since the headphones were taken away.
-
Students will show respect and consideration for other users, especially
by conserving time online, by demonstrating courtesy, and by using appropriate
language, as decided by the librarians, who have complete control over
every action you make.
-
Personal Safety
-
Students may not send any personal information about themselves or others
to any site or individual. This includes the use of email, chat-rooms,
Internet pagers, and Usenet. Students may not send email from the school's
computers at all. Even if it looks like you might be submitting personal
information, bye bye!!! Again, this is at the jurisdiction of the librarians.
-
Campus Resources
-
Students may not print directly from the Internet. Information is to be
saved to a diskette for printing off campus. All students will receive
an orientation, which is supposed to show them how to do this, but nobody
listens to it anyway. And if you do print straight from the Interent, be
prepared to get yelled at.
-
Students will show respect and consideration for other users by conserving
time online.
-
System Security
-
Students may not download software of any kind from the Internet, even
if it is very reliable and safe and helps us do our homework, which is
the point of these computers.
-
Students may not copy computer software from the school's computers.
-
Students will not attempt to access password-protected systems, directories
or files without authorization. They will likewise not attempt to decipher
passwords from others or reveal passwords for the purpose of harming or
destroying others' property, but on Neopets, this happened all the time
and nobody cared.
-
The Internet is censored by an extremely bad blocking software called Bess.
This software does not do much besides block websites on Geocities that
can be used for research.
-
Plagiarism and Copyright Infringements
-
Students agree not to violate any copyright laws. Copyrighted materials
may not be copied or reprinted without the permission of the author or
publisher. If students use others' work retrieved from the Internet or
other electronic resources, they must not claim it as their own.
-
Students agree not to violate any U.S. or state regulations concerning
threatening or obscene material.
-
Students understand that there is no guarantee as to the accuracy of information
received from the Internet, or from this edition of the Agreement, revised
by a rather bitter member of the student body, who is angry about the dictatorship
of the library. For more information on her silly little quest to get back
at the librarians, please don't ask her as she will get in trouble and
that is a BAD thing. :) and have a good day on Netscape.
