The Living Room On Wheels Range Rover V8 Vogue
My cycling mate, Grimey, posing beside my V8 vogue The job in Hull and where I was living meant the annual mileage had dropped, so fuel economy was no longer a big consideration. I spotted a 3.9 V8 vogue Range Rover at Driffield Land Rover. I had always liked the Range Rover and always fancied a V8. I went and bought it (against my better judgement….should have kept the Defender). It became apparent that it was a bit of a dog… it had all sorts of problems over the year I had it, but when strange intermittent noises started coming from the rear axle it was definitely time to get rid. I was looking at buying a house in the not too distant future so a more frugal vehicle was needed, so I traded it in for a Diesel Rover 100 :-(
When it was running it was a great car…..on a long trip you got out of it as relaxed as when you got in. The visibility from the driving position is fantastic, huge low windows, nice comfy arm chair seats - just like being in your living room, except its on wheels! In snow the RR was unstoppable. One snowy winters day I drove around the back lanes up above Holmfirth looking for a hill I couldn’t get up…. I never found one! The viscous coupled central diff gave the car so much control compared to the Defender’s fixed diff lock. A great drive but ferocious petrol consumption, (he vitually had his wages paid straight to the local petrol station). 22mpg was the best I ever got out of it.
