The Sequel

My 2nd Landy, Defender 90 Tdi Hardtop

My Defender paddling

I’d changed jobs and moved to Hull and it was time for a new motor. The 90 county was getting tired at 115,000 miles. Smoke was a problem…would it pass the next MOT? I was doing more motorway miles so the cooling issues on the 90 Turbo Diesel was showing up more. I needed to move to the better Tdi powered Defender.

We found an early 1992 Tdi 90 Van at Copley's Land Rover in Halifax. Sensible mileage, body work a little battered but that just adds character to a Landy (shame you can't say the same about blokes). The difference in performance is black and white. No smoke, 29mpg, good acceleration, no cooling problems, and the Tdi could cruise on the motorway at 80mph (I did once get 100mph out of it, but I was VERY close to the rear end of a V8 Discovery at the time!).
