These are some of the highlights from the "Celebration of the 2600th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami" on April 13 &14, 2002 at Royal Albert Palace, Ford, NJ. This two day event was organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, USA in association with JAINA. Jain Samaj of USA was one of the co-sponsors. Several jain associations from across the country and from UK attended this two day event. There were approximately 2000 persons, jains as well as non-jains, from all over the USA and as many as 7 different countries across the world attended this function. Approximately 50 members from our community also attended this function. Every one enjoyed the magnificent Royal Albert Palace Hall, beautiful weather and superb arrangement for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was no line cutting and rush for breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner. Atmosphere was so much religious even non-jains were also impressed. Some of the examples, Sabari restaurant decided to remain closed on that day. Sabari restaurant is a part of Royal Albert Palace which cooked and served not only onion and garlic but also meat. They felt during the celebration of Mahavir Swami's birth anniversary, they should follow his principles. Mr. Subhash Dalal, non-jain, vice president of Vraj Bhumi, decided to purchase a murthi of Lord Mahavir Swami from the exhibition by donating $15,000. The opening ceremony of the function was done by performing Jain pooja. This pooja was performed by Shri Devenkirtiji Bhatarakji, Shri Nirmal Doshi and Shri Bhupendrabhai C. Shah. Namokar Mahamantra/manglacharan, Kalash, Arag Pooja and aarti attended by some of the JSOU families. Function was inaugurated and well-come address was given by Dr. Navin Mehta, gurudev Chitrabhanu, Dr.L.M. Sanghavi (Member of Rajyashabha), Smt. Shashi Tripathi (Consul General of India). Dr. L.M. Sanghavi was the key-note speaker. He spoke about the inter-relation of Hinduism and Jainism. He also talked about the message of non-violence from Lord Mahavir Swami and our national father Shri Mahatma Gandhi. New Jersey congress man Frank Palone addressed the audience. Celebration also included a seminar on ahimsa and spiritual resurgence which was chaired by Gurudev Chitrabhanu and moderated by Bawa Jain, a member of millennium world peace summit. A tribute to those people who lost their lives during September 11, 2001 tragedy and riots in India was performed by observing two minutes silence. There were different cultural programs on both Saturday and Sunday. Out of all these, Chandanbala Dance cum Drama was the most admired and excellent performance. Every one enjoyed Anup Jalotaji's bhajans in his own sweet voice. There was one program "Mahavir Swami and ChandKaushik" performed by JSOU kids. This program also included lecturers, seminars and exhibition on Jainism. There were some nice photographs from Mahendra Visaria. During this celebration, four times tea/coffee and breakfast/snacks, two lunches and one full dinner were served. JSOU was one of the sponsors for Sunday lunch by donating $2500.
