The outcome of the Nov. 1st trip to San Fransisco was that of flying colors and beautiful music. The day started early at 6:15 Wenesday morning, as members loaded the All West Coachline Bus. Before a workshop and presentation by Ian Swensen, at 3:00pm, students were able to hear Davies Symphony rehearse and tour S.F. City Hall. Chaperones did a great job keeping students in order, and on top of the schedule. Specail thanks goes out to all those involved in the orginization of the trip and efforts to make the first trip a great one.

Winter Concert

I hope you were all able to attend the annual Winter concert. This years concert was especially anticipated because of Mr. Moreno´s conducting. He proved an excellent conductor, leading the orchestra in beautiful holiday music. Along with the orchestra, was part of the DSHS band, the concert choir, the Madrigals and the ever enthusiastic Jazz Choir. All the students who participated proved once again that age has no meaning in musical talent. Thank you to those parents who helped set up the event and pulled it all together.

Darol Anger

The Davis High orchestra students had a spectacular treat this week. Not only did we perform during Open House on March 22, but we had a wonderful guest. Darol Anger, world reknown free style violinist agreed to not only go over our music, but add style, improvisation and his own solo in our performance later that evening. During our block period, Thursday, we learned new exciting ways to use our insturments and renewed our love for music. A huge thanks goes out to Kate Saylor who had been trying to get Anger to help us out. Her efforts were successful and more than expected. Thank you Kate on behalf of the orchestra and their families!

This concert was a great success. This is in thanks to all the parents who helped organize the event and the UCD symphany. DSHS students were able to learn what it is like to perform in a university setting in a great venue. The highlight of the event was a solo performance by four students; one of which was given instruction to perform hours before. Jessica not only took this challenge, but succeeded with great ease. Thank you for helping the orchestra and showing the spectators the true professionalism the Davis High orchestra has.
