THIS MONTH'S  PROJECT: PLOT LINE POSTER   GENRE: HISTORICAL FICTION
DUE DATE: April 6, 2001
You will need to choose a Newbery book and have it approved by your teacher.  Your book project this month will require a visual element, the plot line poster.  Your plot line will illustrate the exposition, rising action, turning point, falling action, and resolution of your book.  Read on for the details!

DIRECTIONS FOR THE PLOT LINE POSTER
Your poster must have the following information:
  • The book title
  • The book's author
  • Your name
  • The date the book received the Newbery Medal or Honor Medal
  • A central illustration
  • The plot line

You will create a plot line which
  • Identifies and describes the main characters
  • Identifies and describes the setting (where? when?)
  • Identifies and describes the problem
These first 3 parts are the EXPOSITION

Your plot line will also

  • Identify and describe several events (the rising action) leading to the turning point or climax
  • Identify and describe the turning point or climax
  • Identify and describe several events (the falling action) leading to the resolution
  • Identify and describe the resolution
The events will be placed around a Central Image or Illustration from your book.  This central image or illustration MUST be created by YOU, not a computer or photocopier.

Definitions:
  • Exposition:  The identification and description of the characters, setting, and problem
  • Rising Action:  The events that lead to the turning point or climax
  • Turning point or Climax:  The event that leads directly to the resolution of the story; the point of highest tension in the main conflict; the "deciding" event.
  • Falling Action:  The events after the turning point leading to the resolution
  • Resolution:  How the conflict is solved.
Use your class notes and the sample plot lines for examples!  ASK QUESTIONS if you don't understand something.
