A person with Down syndrome is more the same as any other person than they
are different. They probably look mostly like their family members, but may have a
few features that appear to be similar to other people with Down syndrome as well.
Their personality depends on who they are and
how they were raised. People with Down syndrome aren't always happy. They
experience all kinds of human emotions, just as people without Down syndrome.
Down syndrome doesn't
change a person's personality. People with Down syndrome are humorous, mean, witty,
caring, and the list goes on, depending on who they are.
Infants with Down syndrome are now reaching developmental milestones at the same rate
(and faster) than infants without Down syndrome.
Children with Down syndrome are succeeding in regular
classrooms, sports teams, summer camps, and more. And adults with Down syndrome are
attending local universities, holding jobs, and living independently and forming
independent relationships.
Today, we are just starting to discover the full potiental of people with Down syndrome.
We, as a society, have seriously underestimated their abilities in the past. And we are
just starting to find new ways to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome. No one
knows what the future may hold.
