According to various census records, George Lamp, Jr. was born in Virginia about 1791. His parents were Elizabeth and Johann George Lamp, Sr. He had a sister, Elizabeth (married to James Hesson); his brothers were Henry (married to Sarah Ridgeway), Jacob (married first to Susannah Snyder and then to Catherine Stacker), Joseph (married to Martha Hesson) and Abraham (married first to Jane Hesson and second to Nancy (Stellar) Lamp).
George Lamp, Jr. was married in Frederick Co., Va., to Christianna Secrest, on 2 July 1811, by Christian Strait. This is in Marriage Register Book No. 1, page 102, line 13.
According to the Ohio 1820 census, George and Christianna were living in Belmont Co., Ohio. Also living with them at this time were four children and one older female (45 years or older). This could possibly have been Christianna's mother, Anna Marie Secrest.
George Lamp Jr. bought 100 acres of land from a Mary Secrest on 20 Jan 1821 in Belmont Co. (Deeds, Vol. H, page 166). In this same Deed Book, pp. 541-2, Christine and George Lamp Jr. sold 29 acres of this same land to Israel Orison on 10 August 1822. At the end of this latter deed, the wife's name is spelled Christiana but she signed with her mark.
Christina Secrest Lamp died sometime before 28 June 1829, as that is the date George Lamp Jr. married Nancy Stellar in Belmont County. This marriage was performed by Eleaser Evans, J.P. For some reason, a female old enough to be Nancy Stellar Lamp does not show up in the Ohio 1830 census but, the census does show George Lamp Jr. having seven children.
Christina Secrest Lamp's brother, Henry Secrest, died in Frederick Co., Virginia., 19 July 1835, age 76 years, 11 months. Henry died leaving no wife or children, so his estate was divided between his full and half brothers and sisters, or if they were deceased, their children. Will Book 23 in Frederick Co. has several pages covering this division and settlement. Benjamin Keckley and Abraham Secrest were the administrators. Abraham Secrest turned in very good records to the court, listing each and every person on his list who received money. Unfortunately, Benjamin Keckley, who was to pay Christiana's children, did not do the same.
In 1846, Keckley alleges that he had made payments to some of the distributees, but he "has not exhibited to the commissioner the notes, they being either lost or mislaid." He does show, however, that on 4 Oct 1837, he paid $412.50 to George Lamp for the children of the deceased half-sister, Christianna Lamp. He showed he still owed these children $90.42, but said "the receipt for this share is rect. in full."
In "Ohio Records and Pioneer Families" Vol 19, p. 119, there is listed a Belmont County Business Directory for 1853. George Lamp is recorded with a post office address in Belmont; his occupation was that of lumber manufacturer and saw mill operator.
Sometime between 1860 and 1870, George and Nancy Lamp moved to White County, Illinois., along with his brother Abraham and Abraham's wife, Jane Hesson Lamp. The year after George's death, Nancy married, on 25 Dec 1877, his widowed brother, Abraham.
There is no death record for George Lamp Jr. in White County other than the reference in Circuit Court file box 413. There is one for Nancy. It shows that she died 12 Oct 1889 in Carmi Twp. They both were probably buried in Bruce Chapel cemetery, along with Abraham and Jane Lamp who have markers on their graves there. There are no markers or cemetery records for George or Nancy.
Jacob Lamp was the son of Johann George and Elizabeth Lamp. He was born September 15, 1794, in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. Around 1810, Johann George moved his family to Belmont County, Ohio.
It was there that Jacob married Susannah Snyder [1794-1891] on August 16, 1813. They had ten children of which, Joshua, the father of Thomas Jackson Lamp, was the fourth child.
Like his brother Henry, Jacob ran a mill. He built the second mill in Goshen Township on a branch of Captina Creek. However, Jacob and Susanna separated, and Jacob moved to Licking County, Ohio. Here he married Catherine Stacker [1803-1884] and had ten more children . In Licking County Jacob settled on hilly land so he could operate a water-powered saw mill and raise sheep. Jacob died in Bowling Green, Licking County, Ohio on June 25 1886. He was buried in Newark, Licking County, Ohio.
The photo of Jacob and Catherine shown above was taken in 1871 and was provided by Jacob and Catherine's great-great-great-grandaughter, Connie [Lamp] Richardson.

James Marion Lamp was one of five sons of Jacob and Catherine Lamp. He was born 13 Oct. 1842, in Amsterdam, Licking County, Ohio. He joined the White Chapel Christian Union Church at the age of 12, when the church became divided over the anti-slavery question prior to the Civil War. He married Sarah E. Cummings [1844-1864], and they had a son, William Henry.
As a very young man, James taught a class of 56 members and in 1867 started to preach the gospel and received the approval of his church. He was ordained in 1871 at Linnville and preached regularly at Jacksontown, Hartleyville and Portersville, later becoming pastor of the local church he served for years.
After his first wife, Sarah, passed away, James remarried. His second wife was Sarah P. Hanson [1838-1908], daughter of Miles Hanson. They had three sons and two daughters. After Sarah passed away, James married once more. His third marriage was to Mary Jane Dusthimer in 1909. James died at the age of 97 on 18 Feb. 1940, in Newark, Licking County, Ohio, having served over 58 years in the ministry until his retirement in 1925.
Thomas Jackson Lamp was the son of Joshua Lamp and Charlotte Virden. He was born March 18, 1877, in Pleasants County, West Virginia. He was youngest of nine children. His siblings were Sarah C., Franklin, William, Mary Ellen, Melissa J., Delia, Debbie, and Isaac. Thomas married Margret Ruth Amy Birkhimer on March 22, 1897, in East Liverpool, Ohio. Thomas died on May 3, 1950, in Alliance, Stark County, Ohio, and was buried in Sebring, Ohio.
Margret Ruth Amy Birkhimer was the daughter of Thomas J. Birkhamer and Mary E. Garrison. She was born May 17, 1877, in Pleasants County, West Virgina. She was the seventh child to Thomas and Mary. Her siblings included: John G., Annetta, George G., Rebecca J., Rosa F., Liva B. and Alonzo, all listed in the 1880 Census for Pleasants County, West Virginia. Margret lived to be 84 and died February 27, 1962, in Sebring, Ohio, at her residence.
