Faerie faerie

Alecto - Keeper of the Mushroom Glade

Faeries love to dance! They often dance in circles in the grass which are called faerie rings. Enchanted music is a big part of their dancing. If a mortal happens to be passing by during a dance, the enchantment will pull the unsuspecting person toward the fairy "conflagration" where he may inadvertently step into the ring. Should this unfortunately happen to the passer-by, he will

be compelled to join the faeries in their prancing. To the human caught in this melee the dance may seem to last only minutes, or a night at the most, when in actuality the time frame, being faerie, would be seven years or longer.

Imagine a friend, all at once, seeing his companion dancing and turning in circles with no one else in sight! If the faeries choose to present themselves, an unfortunate captive can be pulled free, by a releaser, if his releaser will keep one foot outside of the ring, as he reaches in and pulls the human dancer out.

The faerie ring mushrooms mark the boundary of faerie dance places. Some circles of mushrooms have been proved to be of geat antiquity, with an age span of six-hundred years or more.

Many mushrooms are highly poisonous, so they should never be picked and eaten in the wild. The one most associated with the fae is the red Fly Agaric, which has poisonous hallucinogenic properties. The word beserk comes from the fighting frenzy caused by eating this mushroom. The Celts had a taboo on the red toadstool and on many red foods like rowanberries and other red fruits and nuts. Some Irish and Scottish people even in real time, will not eat red foods.
