This is where people can rant or rave about the AX Karaoke. All submissions should be mailed to me. This is purposefully not a guestbook because only select entries will be posted on here.

Be constructive people... Stuff like "it rocks!/it sucks!" will not be posted. General ranting is accepted at the AX Karaoke Club AX Karaoke Group or the AX Message Board. This is meant as a forum/archive for comments and criticisms which could make AX Karaoke better for years to come. Let the rant begin :b

AX Menu - Karaoke Contest
AX Karaoke? Is that something new?!

I think I'll first explain why this webpage is here. AX Karaoke first started in 1998 (I wasn't there)... however, I know that it drew a huge crowd in 1999 (cuz I was there). I think a good time was had by all and the AX Karaoke staff really put in a lot of hours to make it work. Despite its success, I was tremendously disappointed to see ABSOLUTE NO (not even a little) news or coverage of the past two years when AX2000 was coming around. No articles, no pictures, no links, not even a mention except for it being a "live programming" event at AX2000. It's like it had never been and this was something new...

So "out for blood" so to speak, I decided I needed to represent the efforts of both contestants and staff in putting a "voice" to this event for future years. Armed with a borrowed camcorder... and 7 1/2 hours of footage later, this webpage was born. I hope I did justice to you all and I hope to see you all again (as well as new faces) in future AX Karaoke events. You don't have to compete... there's always open mic, even I sang a few songs at open mic (gasp!).

Hope you all enjoy the page!! -- Duo-kun

An empty stage... again!
Contestant #9... Calling contestant #9

This is a rant for future contestants. If you guys sign up for the contest... SHOW UP! It really messes with the schedule if you guys don't show up, and you took up a space where someone else could've competed. AX Karaoke staff: I'm glad you guys did some impromptu entertainment (the judges too, thanks). Maybe next year you could plan some staff entertainment as well as an INTERMISSION :b

Side note for flame_knight_hikaru: You're forgiven for not showing up because you lost your voice, but next time (there won't be a next time right? :b) inform the staff that you won't be competing?

-- Duo-kun (again... ya I'm wordy, you gggot a problem with that? ^_^;;)

Improvements... for staff and contestants...

Can you possibly make it [the karaoke contest] the SECOND day of the con or something? Many people arrive at the con on the FIRST day, like I did, and even if they get to the con in time for the competition, there was that "maze" we had to wade through before we could actually FIND anything at the con... I think it took us about an hour to find the karaoke place... ^^;; (Webmaster personal note: I think prelims on first day is okay, but don't have the WHOLE thing on the first day, put the semis/finals off on another day)

Contestants, if you're not going to memorize your songs, then at least have the lyrics with you. It's very boring watching someone stumble over lyrics, but it's very entertaining watching a tone-deaf person sing with all his [or her] might and dance and sing his [or her] off-pitch notes to actual lyrics he [she] memorized. (I don't entirely agree, but it's your rant so... :b)

Err.. a random rant :b (brain-freeze, can't think up a title)

Well, this maybe due to the fact that I DID lose a CD. *Grr* Anyway. They should be a little more orgonized with the music and/or CD's. Yes I know they were MUCH more orgonized than last year. Good job Kim! And the rest of the staff. But at least call up people after they are done performing to get thier CD's back. *Huff*

Other than that, I thought it was very entertaining. It was nice for the judges to do the intermissions... Gotta love the SHAFT thing going on. ^.^;; And it is nice when the singers get the audience involved. And YES! They definately should hold the karaoke contest in a 2 day time period. I missed a lot, though I only went through prelims. That's okay though. And I'm really glad someone is covering it this year! Keep on trucking Duo-kun! "You're Damn Right!"

Gender segregation...

I have a suggestion for next year's Anime Expo Karaoke. Instead of having the two winners, (Best, and Best Group) maybe add another one so you can have one for Best Female Vocal and one for Best Male vocal, and then Best Group.

I thought the majority of the singers were female, and perhaps, this may encourage more guys to go up and sing. =) Plus the talents of a male and female vary greatly to me. So maybe put up a Best Female and Best Male next year? =)
