THE SUBMISSION ;continued

His teeth pierced her throat, disappearing into the soft flesh so easily, the blood spilling into his mouth quickly. He savored the taste completely, taking it in as carefully as he could. With each taste, his control lessened further. That familiar, rhythmic drumming began. Her heart becoming in tune with his. Stop, he told himself mentally, stop now. Fear became a living thing inside him. He had to stop and somewhere found the inner strength, freeing the hold quickly. But even as he wrenched away, it was carefully, not tearing her flesh.

She lay beneath him, pale and limp. Her arms had fallen from his shoulders and her eyes were closed, long lashes shadowing her cheeks. The blood still trickled from the twin holes in her throat, which were slowly closing. His voice, tinged with concern, broke through the haze as he asked if she was alright. Slowly, her eyes opened and focused on the beautiful face, worry shadowing his eyes. Licking her lips, she sought to lift her hand to brush away the long, black hair fallen over his forehead, but the effort was too much and it fell back on the bed.  "Cold," was all she said, as she shivered. And then, in a faint voice of surprise.."But....you didn't ...kill me."

He wrapped his arms around her, trying to warm her with his own body. The frightening thought crossed his mind. The loss of blood was what chilled her now. Hearing her question, his gaze fixed on her as he held her to him and whispered softly.
"How could I kill you? Would that not make me a monster, if I were to take your life after what we have shared tonight? No, a monster I am not. Perhaps misguided. Damned yes, but my conscience does not allow it." He sighed deeply as he continued, "Others of my kind always regard it as my greatest weakness. That coupled with the compassion I seem to possess." He laughed lightly , "A vampire with compassion. Ironic, is it not? And that is why I could not kill you. For that would have said you mean nothing to me, and that would be a lie.
"

She lay there in his arms, breathing slowly returning to normal, though her pulse was still weak, listening to his soft words. Far from a monster, his face seemed almost angelic as emotions crossed the perfect features. Her own thoughts struggled to comprehend what exactly had occured this night. At what point did she lose control? Her body still felt the fire of their mutual passion as she spoke, her voice husky. "I never thought you a monster. In fact, I am more the monster than you could ever be." Her voice caught in her throat and she paused before continuing.  "I came here tonight with the intention of using you, because I was too much of a coward to take my own life. So, I played what could be termed Russian Roulette with a vampire, feeling certain that you would drain me. Yet now," she faltered.. "We have shared the ultimate intimacy. You have pierced me with fang and flesh." She dropped her gaze, fearful of what this revelation would bring.

He bent forward slowly, locking her in a kiss and she tasted the faint remains of her blood on his tongue. Pulling back just as slowly, lips reluctantly parting from hers, he spoke again. "My beautiful angel, listen to me now, for even when this night has passed and it is once more day, I wish to have you with me. So that when my eyes open once more, when the sun fades into the earth, it is you that I shall see waiting to welcome me into the darkness again."  Tears shimmered on her lashes as she answered him, in a voice filled with emotion, "Always, my love....always."

The End or perhaps just The Beginning.                            Thank you, Louis.
