But what about all the stuff everyone says about Wiccans... is it really nothing bad? No, there is nothing evil about Wicca itself, the main part of the Wiccan Rede states "An ye harm none, do what ye whilt." I can not make you believe that, you can not get rid of all stereotypes quickly, if you are truly interested in Wicca, read more about it in my other pages and other sites. I believe that intent is the key in everything, so if you have no intent to harm anyone, then you are not doing anything evil. I know it's difficult to disregard what many say about Wicca being evil. However, at one point, everything was considered evil. Take the Jews in the Holocaust... the Nazis believed they brought all the evil into the world. The Christians were once persecuted also. The constant battles between Protestants and Catholics, which are both Christian religions, in England and France several centuries ago caused a lot of conflict and misconceptions about the other religion. What I'm trying to explain is that what people say isn't necessarily the truth. Prejudice occurrs constantly, and these stereotypes started to exist because of that. People needed a scapegoat in the Middle Ages, and unfortunately, Witches were the target, and only now is the truth beginning to show. So basically, no Wicca is not bad, and please do not judge anything or anyone because of hearsay, always investigate for yourself!
Can I be Wiccan and still believe in one God? Many will disagree with me when I say this, but I believe that yes, you can. I believe in one God, I believe there are many aspects to him but I pretty much believe in one Diving Being. If you believe int eh Christian or Jewish God, I think you can still be Wiccan. I don't it's the name that counts though, believe what you believe. Religion is a personal relationship between you and your Deity and should not be changed because of anyone else's opinion. There are "Christian Witches" out there but some claim that it's impossible to be that. I claim.. anything is possible. If that's what you believe, it's what you believe.
Do Wiccans/Witches worship Satan? No!! Witches and Wiccans do not believe in Satan or the Devil. All Witches will tell you this; and who would you rather believe, someone who isn't Wiccan and doesn't know what Wicca is, or someone who is and who has studied it for years? No one knows what we believe, and those who claim that they do, how can you tell me that I believe in something when I'm telling you I don't?
Can you really fly on brooms and turn people into frogs in stuff? I wish! No, unfortunately we can not fly. Although I believe that anything is possible, most will disagree with me. Even if it is possible, it has nothing to do with Wicca.
So do you hate Christians and Jews and other religions? No! We do not hate other religions, nor do we believe that Wicca is the only true path to the Divine Being(God). Although I do tend to dislike those of a closed mind, those that dislike Wiccans for no apparent reason but their own stereotypes and ignorance, I can't say that I truly despise them since it probably has something to do with their upbringing, BUT, that has nothing to do with Christians or Jews in particular.
So what's the deal on spells... can I cast a love spell or hex someone??? No, please go back to the Wicca: Main Page and read the Wiccan Rede. You can not harm anyone nor meddle with people's feelings. Although there is a form of magick that you can do that with, it will come back to you. If you harm anyone, you are not a true Wiccan, please consider an alternate path, or should I say, please don't.
What's the difference between a Pagan, a Wiccan and a Witch? People have various interpretations on those terms, and I will share mine with you. I believe that Pagan is a more general term for the above, if you are Wiccan, you are Pagan. However, if you are Pagan, you are not necessarily Wiccan. It's similar to being a Protestant; if you are a Protestant, you are Christian. If you're Christian, you aren't necessarily a Protestant. There isn't too much of a difference between being a Wiccan and a Witch; I use those terms interchangibly although I probably shouldn't. Basically, Witches do not follow the Wiccan Rede but still try not to harm anyone. Witches believe that all magick is grey, just like people are. People commit sins on a daily basis, spells are nothing but that, it is energy focused on a particular thing, often used with materialistic symbols. So technically, focusing on an evil that you wish would happen to someone and then having it happen is a hex. Witches believe that is is the intent that matters, and they are open to the "Eye for an Eye" theory like in Judaism rather than the Christian statement, "Turn the other cheek." However, if you notice, most Christians do not believe in turning the other cheek.
So who do you worship? Most Wiccans worship the Lady and the Lord (The Goddess and the God) and their various aspects. Because most Wiccans believe them to be one, as two parts of a whole, it is monotheistic in nature.
What do Witches/Wiccans believe happens to them after death? Wiccans believe in reincarnation. We believe in karma, and what you do in this life might not only effect you in your current life but also in future lives. With each life, we learn something and hopefully don't have to go through difficult situations again if we acquired the wisdom we were supposed to in this life.
Do Witches pray and celebrate holidays? We believe that spells are a form of prayer, so yes, we do pray. Our prayers often contain more than a few words exchanged with God, but we often write extensive rituals and prepare ourselves for it. However, that is not necessary, and intent is the key here. We do celebrate holidays. The major holidays are the eight sabbats, you can read about them here. We also celebrate other occasions such as moon phases, especially a full moon or a blue moon(this is when a full moon occurs twice in one month).
How do I cast spells?? If you don't know anything about Wicca and that is the only thing you want to know, then Wicca isn't for you. It is a religion and there is much more to it than just casting spells. Besides, spells aren't what you see on TV, you can't point a finger at something and just make it happen, they are more like prayers. If your intent is to hurt someone or to meddle with someone's feelings, you will not receive positive results as what you do comes back to you thrice, that is the Threefold Rule that Wiccans follow. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do spells, but I am saying that before casting them, you should learn about them first. To do that, you can buy books or look around this website, I have lots of information, and also see the links to other websites.
Does initiation make you Wiccan? No, initiation does not make you Wiccan. Initiation is a symbol for becoming Wiccan, but despite what some people will tell you, it is not what makes you Wiccan. What makes you something is not calling yourself by that name but by being it, actions speak louder than words. Initiation is a nice ceremony where you dedicate yourself to the Goddess and the God but I believe it certainly is not necessarily for you to be able to say "I'm Wiccan," if that's what you want to do.
Do I need to be initiated by another Witch to become a Wiccan/Witch? Some people will tell you that yes, you do. Most however understand that it is not a necessity. There are many solitary Wiccans, or those who practice alone and do not join covens. In that case, you definitely do not need to be initiated by another Witch. The question "who made the first Witch?" often comes up when answering this question. Basically, you don't need to be initiated by another Wiccan to be Wiccan, nor do you necessarily need to be initiated at all, it's more in your soul, and it comes from learning a lot and feeling that Wicca is indeed the path for you.
How do I become Wiccan? The first step to any religion is to learn about it as much as you can. Purchase some books about Wicca (Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham is a good choice, it was my first book), if you have no access to these, you can always surf the web, I have a lot of info on this site as well. You don't become Wiccan momentarily or due to an occurance, it's something more gradual. For now, I would just say learn about it as much as you can and then you will feel it for yourself. When you feel you know enough(although you will never know enough, but you know what I mean), you can dedicate yourself into the craft, after a year and a day has passed since your dedication, you can initiate yourself. You can read more about that when you're ready here.
What is Wicca? Wicca is a religion that is highly based on nature. It is not evil in any form and Witches do not worship the devil nor do they believe in him. Wiccans believe in the many forms of the Goddess and the God, some are polytheistic in nature and believe that there are many gods and goddesses while others believe that they are all parts of one. It is difficult to briefly paraphrase exactly what Wicca is, so I suggest you find out for yourself by reading about it on this site, in books and on other sites. Do not trust everything you hear, but absorb the information and judge it for yourself. A very important part of Wicca lies in the Wiccan Rede and states "An ye harm none, do what ye whilt." This has to do with both the spells you cast and the life you live. We also believe in the Threefold Rule and karma, what you do comes back to you thrice. Witches do not follow those rules as Wiccans do but they have similar theories about not harming anyone although they aren't as strict.
