The Mother's Curse

"I just can't wait until you grow up and have kids of your own that behave just as bad as you. Then you'll know what it's like."

That is the curse of the mother, perhaps not worded exactly like that, but odds are good that you have heard a close facimile thereof from your own mother. I'm convinced that the Goddess listens to mothers when they say the curse. Because it works!

Those are the words spoken when a mother is at her wits end; words that come almost instinctively when a mother has run out of solutions. This is a negative thing, if you think about it, it's a wish that's made with serious energy for an outcome to bring more misery to mothers. Is it right to wish for that?

Well, thanks Mom, but the curse stops with me. Rather than curse our children with children of their own, "just as rotten as they were," why not wish them well?

My own mother gave me the curse, and of course, in keeping with the "law-of-three"...yes, you guessed it...I have three children just as rotten as me and I wouldn't wish that on anyone not even my worst enemy, and especially not my own children.

That's exactly what I told them. When I was the one about to say the curse, and the words, "Just wait until you have children of your own,"... I stopped myself and said, "I hope your own children forever respect and have an honest relationship with you, because no parent deserves this kind of stress." Then I turned and walked away from them, smiling to myself. Who knows, perhaps I've spared them and the rest of the world some unpleasantness. The way I figure it, that's 9 less rotten kids for the next generation to deal with.
