John's parents told him about this experience when he has over for dinner the same day as the occurrence. The phenomena happened like this;

His step-father Tony and the family cat Chester were in the kitchen early Saturday morning. Tony was doing his morning routine of reading a paper and eat breakfast, and Chester was waiting for his. While the two were sitting in there various places in the kitchen, a chair sitting against a wall moved a few inches across the floor with an audible scrap across the ceramic tiles. Tony knows that he didn't imagine it because Chester the cat had heard it too, and was staring in the direction of the chair with a whole lot of interest. Chester then ran into the living room, then into the dinning room like he was chasing someone or something. And then came back to the kitchen with a confused look on his face. (Yes people, pets can look confused. To those who own pets this comes as no great shock.)
